Is your May Extra Hot?
Is May being extra hot in your area?
It's been on TV about the heat over here. Last week we were with Log burner in the evening, woke up last wednesday I think it was, opened the door and the heat hit me, this week can't sleep without the air con on. There seems to be no lovely in between weather this year. What a difference a few days makes. |

I seem to remember doing the same last year & the year before though - not sure exactly when looking at this for the past few years it isn't much different http://www.wunderground.com/history/...q_statename=NA |
Re: Is your May Extra Hot?
surely it is a question of looking at the calendar, it is now mid-May so why shouldnt there be high temps.
2 years ago the BH's brother came to visit and he went home with sunburn on his rapidly balding head from early April sun. the earth is a living breathing thing and we get so stuck into expecting things to be distinct cutoff from one season to another on a particular date. things just dont work that way. . |
Re: Is your May Extra Hot?
It's been much hotter than usual over the last week.
It usually reaches 30c by the end of May but we have had it over 30c for the last 6 days, only today has it stayed below 30c. Going back over my records for the last 8 years on only one other occasion have we had 6 30+ days in the month and they were right at the end. For 4 other years it has been 30+ on 1 or 0 days in the month. The long range forecast suggests it getting cooler (near normal) from today for about a week and then picking up again but probably not getting as hot as it has been over the last week. |

Re: Is your May Extra Hot?
Nobody can predict the weather anymore like in England there is no such thing as seasons nowadays

Re: Is your May Extra Hot?
Quite a few Spanish around my way were complaining about the excess heat and sudden change last week, saying it was far from the norm.
When it comes on gradually ppl have a chance to acclimatise, but this caught quite a few out, incl. myself, and apparently some older ones are suffering a bit. This trend towards little or no in-between period, (spring or autumn), seems to me to have increased in recent times and not only in Spain. Maybe it ties in with the continued trend to more extremes of weather. |

Night time has still been pretty cool though, we have no air con and I've not had to open the windows or put a fan on to sleep yet. I am glad the forecast is to stay cooler for a few more days though, I was getting a bit worried about what July and August were going to be like if it was 32C in mid May! |

The officially recorded temperature in Las Palmas today at 6pm was 28 degrees. The all time temperature record is 39c. |
Re: Is your May Extra Hot?
We've had 38c - the Spanish are telling us that this is an unusual heat-wave for this time of year.
They say that it will only last another 3 days or so before returning to normal. |
