I often wondered if they were effective.

I don't normally have a problem with my arms or legs, but although I've worked outdoors all my life my face burns up easily.

I have on several occasions managed to get sunburned sitting just inside an apartment or on the terrace completely in the shade all day.
I can only put it down to reflected rays coming of concrete surfaces or whitewashed buildings, as naturally it doesnt happen if the surrondings are open campo.

Yep I have heard the rays can still get you even if you are indoors.:eek:

Well, you mustn't forget that you need a certain amount of sun per day as it wards off several types of cancer.

Yeah. I notice that here more people smile and say hello. In the UK, a stranger says hello, you know you've just found the local nutter.

:lol::lol:

Yes you can go to the other extreme, we do need a certain amount of sunlight. I know a man from Iceland and he has a strange face, not exactly just white but bloodless. Although I don't go for the Costa del Leather look!

I always remember being somewhere where some old girl was going the colour of antique leather in the sun. I say old, but who knows? She was certainly possessed of a fairly leathery skin it seemed.

What impressed me was that she had her swimsuit 'tugged up' in a kind of frontal wedgie so that she was able to tan her 'flappage' so to speak.

Do a bit of research. Interestingly it wards off bowel cancer to a certain extent.

I guess it depends on the extent of the cloud cover, so I don't think you would get enough under thick cloud.

don't suppose a cloud of steam from oiled bodies on the beach counts ?

surely the immediate problem is the head, too much direct sun will boil the brain ?

I know the oh has problems with the sun on her head, wears a white cloth baseball type cap and no problems, if she wears a dark coloured one feels faint.

I don't even own a cap ..:eek:

Do you have an efficient rete mirable? Not sure of the spelling, it's the web of blood vessels that cools the brain.
