Re: Yes or No
we applied in 2005 for residencia, were sent the form with a date for fingerprinting of September 2007. Our lawyers have told us we really now will only get a certificate... BUT.. we do have the form sent to lawyers in early 2006 with date for fingerprints, this states we have been granted residencia till 2010, so we now use that form, in both bank and legal settings as a certificate, and if banks and notaries accept it, then I don't see just why we need to go any further till we need to reapply.

Re: Yes or No
I have lived in Spain for nearly 6 years and every time we have mentioned to anyone, including solicitors they've told us it wasn't neccessary. The only advantage was less capital gains tax if you sold your house, this has changed now anyway, so I can't see the point the sooner Spain realizes it's a member of the EU the better

Its not actually a resident certificate as such, but they are supposed to apply for either a holiday visa or if they want to stay a work visa, without these they can be refused entry into the UK or later removed as illegal immigrants. HERE

The article said only if you were not a member of an EU state (I think) that you had to get a permit but we have to apply for residencia here in Spain and we are from an EU state so what I am saying is - does it work vice versa?
