IMO, the content of what some people post says far more damning things about themselves than anything other members could write about them. Give them enough rope ...

People can only hurt/offend you with words if you allow them to.

We each have a different writing voice and a different reading ear, as well as a barrow load of prejudices. JK Rowling has enthralled a generation of 12-year olds, but if she posted on here some of our pensioners would be outraged; if Salman Rushdie posted one of his longer paragraphs on this forum, we'd all fall asleep.

Variety is the answer, and a bit of controversy to stop the people at the back dozing off.

That's where my 'line', as someone put it earlier on, falls. Anyone can question my viewpoint, suggest fallibilities or failings in my arguments, indeed make me feel stupid for even saying something. If they do it 'politely'. Use vocabulary intelligently rather than as pixellated ballistics. Even insults can be tempered by adjectives, clauses, blah blah into grammar and the world of English usage! As my dear late mum used to say, it's not what you say it's the way in which you say it.
(I've re-read and realised this might infer I've taken something personally and that's what the thread is about! Far from it, it's just easier to personalise to draw comparisons.)

I get what you are saying, it is very well put, and I understand about there being a line.

It is easier to cross it if we are not interrupted as in face to face, and I must admit that I do have the skin of a rhinos arse (thick).

:D

Sorry to build your hopes up but there was nothing interesting behind it at all - he just meant I was a bossy so and so!

I've often thought, though, that I wouldn't mind at all if someone wanted to come and scrub my kitchen floor with a toothbrush and pay me for the privilege. I'd even throw in a few insults gratis.:)

Now, where's the phone number for Sur in English classified ads?

In answer to the OP........

Yes, I regurally voice my views in person, directly to the point and in person and no one has punched me yet.

People need to understand that this forum and the internet in general is not real life. That's the reason I just post my views and move on. Discussion is pointless.

This forum tries to present itself as some authority on Spain, when clearly it is not!!!!

The regular posters seem to think they are samo saviours with indepth knowledge of all things SPain. All this "helping" only leads to confusion. They are not experts and most of the time their views are collated from pub talk or Spanish friends/relatives, who on the whole know less than the people on here (The Spanish rarely investigate facts themselves, they rely on others to know the answer, because he's "IN THE KNOW").

My OH works for the government, so by default I get a daily commentary on the office happenings. It is very enlightening.

I know all about "you" expats.........your income or lack of it, UK pension, Spanish pension, disabilities, sexuality, hopes and fears, what your plans are, whether your attempting to defraud, blah, blah, blah. No names of course. I can assure you that forums like this are frequented by very few people and don't have the weight that many of you think!!!

The real life demograph is very different to what's portrayed on here.

So to sum up, chillout and don't take the internet too seriously. Life continues irrespective.

Sounds interesting. Can you open a new thread under a pseudonym and reveal all? :)

Had very little dealings with these departments myself, but I was always under the impression that what was said there was all in confidence, and not for general consumption outside of the office. Let's hope you are a bit more discreet than your other half.
