Who are the 8 that are imminently taking the plunge? I know theres me, intiuitivenipple, kerri and a couple more whom i cant remember their names.
Maybe we should have a thread dedicated to those that are about to go to report on how they're diong as soon as they get there.

10 days to go for me, the stomachs a churning a bit hehehe.

Is it me or has rental prices in the costa del sol shot up again in the last couple of weeks ? :(

How about we all run a public blog here on BritishExPats but link all discussion to one topic in this forum?

Like Andrew I'm going to be doing a lot of videoing. Since 2000 I've been taking a palm-held camcorder everywhere I go and filming what me and my friends get up to. This move is going to provide some great backdrops and scenery for the new chapter. I shall be putting my videos in my blog.

I don't think I'll have much problem with agents and so on when they know they've been captured on camera

Ten days to go....does not seem possible, time gone so quickly for you.

Rental prices here go up once Easter is over unfortunately, also long term rental places get fewer as the owners would rather rent short term at higher rates for holiday makers.

Just looked at todays Sur in English, lots of jobs here and in Gib with www.RecruitSpain.com
Do not know what this company is like but have a look, may be able to help you regarding job....Good luck

Don't bank on agents being honest, just because you have a camera!!

I caught some incredible whoppers onnfilm when we were looking.

They probably get so used to cameras, they forget they're there, and with many lying isnt just second nature, it's actually all they know how to do!!

But at least if one does get lied to, and it's on film, it could be very useful evidence for any later disputes& court cases , etc...

Is this something like "Naughty's Stay or Go Sweepstake", because I think we should remember that was started as a little fun but it ended up hurting Miss Naught's feelings.:(

Don't think I am a party pooper:frown: (is that spelt right) it's just some of us get a little carried away:sneaky: sometimes with what we say.

Agree with you totally. I do not think that any of the genuine people on this forum wish any newcomers ill and they are unnerved enough about the move without this type of thread.

For my part, opinions written in forums like this, by people I do not know personally, aren't going to affect my intentions or feelings.

What will affect them are hard facts and information that is corroborated by multiple sources I use in my research.

I can be as sarcastic or provoking as anyone, and sometimes a good dose of cynicism is an excellent damper on unreasonable expectations or unbridled 'virgin' enthusiasm :)

Good luck to all of you who are considering the move:thumbsup:. We have been here almost 4 years and it has certainly been an experience. We came when the boys were 4 and 6 years, they have had a fantastic time and so have we. It has taught me to relax, be more tolerant, lose my materialistic values that I had in the UK which has been a very useful learning curve and an important lesson both for us as adults and the boys. Unfortunately my husband has no work here now and has gone to the UK, :( not what we planned but means must and we are now planning to go to OZ. I would recommend it to anyone but its not easy and remember MANANA:rofl:

Check out Mr. Negative :p

I'll be alright, Ive already said that if I dont get on in spain I'll try Portugal, if that fails, Italy, if that fails, France, if that fails then I'll get a plane to afghanistan and take my chances dodging bullets.

I know I shouldnt, but I truly hate the UK in a very large way. When I tell people that, some say 'Why are you here then?' which led me to this forum

He does tend to post slightly negative threads, which is fine and I agree that rose tinting is a very bad thing but he can get a bit heavy when it comes to getting an answer he wants.

Check out his "what will you give to Spain" thread

still want full price for my house not gonna give it away! Its a big house too big for the buy to rent market but think it will sell because of its size compared to newer ones in the same price bracket. Not looking at Spain through rosen tinted glasses know we will have to work hard but we have to work hard here too!! Hubby for a while will still work in England till the kids have left school and hopefully then they will not be so draining on our finances and we can have a rest!!

Hey Jean, karma coming your way from me, ignore the negativity and remember you dont ever have to work hard, its a common myth, you just have to work smart ;)

Hope it pans out for you

Re: Will they last!

Don't know if I am one of your eight, but will be on my way sometime in May.The thread sounds like fun, and I would very much like to take part. Will it work for me, heaven only knows. All I can say is that I think so. I have done my research. Taken much of the good advice I have recieved from many, incuding many on this site.

In reality, I don't know how I will adjust to being retired, moving home, living in a small town, living in a different country.

My son says that I am limited by my rose tinted spectacles. He says, 'you always see the best in people and situations, and life just isn't like that. People are only ever out for themselves, and then you die anyway so what's the point?

I say to him, 'well you are right, I do see the best in people and situations, but only because that is my experience over nearly 60 years, and when life shows me something different then I will have to rethink.

I'm not naive enough to believe that there will be no drawbacks, frustrations, or hard times, in fact I view those as part of the challenge. And I expect to be challenged. To me that's an important part of the deal. Taking a calculated risk, and dealing with whatever arises.

If something crops up that is insurmountable then I would have to move on. But I would view it as moving on, not moving back.

I will be making the move with some trepidation, but also shed loads of optimism.

Best of luck to all who are making the move soon, and hope to see you on this thread.

Bah!!! to the glass half empty brigade!!!
