OK...
Let's just accept that "everything in Spain is great, everything everywhere else is shit" and leave it there, OK? At least 2 of our resident experts will be relieved to hear the good times are-a-rollin' again.
Happy happy happy!

I'll repeat "So, no sensible comment on how exports can lift Spain out of the crisis (or not)? Or even that the UK should or shouldn't follow suit?"

Re: Why Spain is becoming an export powerhouse..
Headline in the Spanish news this morning that unemployment has dropped for the first time in March since 2008....hang on, the drop was due to the traditional hiring for Semana Santa which is usually in April.

A €1 trillion economy, the world’s second most powerful tourist country, but with 6 million unemployed people and an economy in free fall, has been able to generate a grand total of…4,979 jobs thanks to the Easter Week effect.

Re: Why Spain is becoming an export powerhouse..
It would be great if Spain could export it's way out. Considering the seriousness of it's economic condition, if Spain's exports could quadruple, or quintuple, exporting its way out of this mess might even seem remotely feasible.
Unfortunately, Spain is shackled by an overvalued currency which it has absolutely no control over, and thusly Spanish goods are still largely uncompetitive in the global market.
The good/bad news is that because of it's staggering unemployment, labour costs have dropped sharply, enabling Spain to begin to price its goods slightly more competitively, arguably resulting in marginally greater exports, yet so far, insufficient to even remotely reverse the continuing economic contraction it is experiencing.
That better?
Or would you prefer this version:
It was announced today that Spain is now the world's #1 exporter of everything. Due to Spain's robust economy, low unemployment, youthful, highly skilled and highly motivated workforce, Spain has now eclipsed China as the #1 producer and exporter of all things that anyone would ever want.
"It's simply an amazing success story" remarked some unknown armchair economist and forum regular on a Spanish expat forum, "From zero to hero literally overnight, it's exactly what I've been predicting for months, much to the shagrin of all those foolish naysayers who always bring up unsavoury and indisputable facts to the contrary".
The Spanish government today reinforced the euphoria by announcing that over 4000 temporary jobs have been created to work over the easter holiday, dropping the unemployment rate nearly .0000000000000076% of a percentage point, to a 4-day low of 26.778%, making it the world's best.

Preeeeety sure Stevie has the right to post whatever he likes about Spain or any other subject. If people don't like it or feel its not what they want to read then there is a perfectly good solution.... don't read it. At least he tries to discuss things in a sensible fashion.
