Default Where should you keep your money?

It seems that if you had money in a Cyprus bank account, you'll have between 7 and 10% seized by next week.

Shares? Land? Gold? All of those can be taxed or lose value.

Money is only the means to an end. Spend it, if you have it, to live the life you want.

Well I'm not saving it for the the stepkids (they have had more than their share), so I'm going to spend every euro of it before those thieving government bast-ew-ards get their paws on it.

Yes, we are SKI's as well (Spending our Kids Inheritance) Well doing our best anyway, whatever we leave will be considerably more than anyone has ever left me. As I have never been left a penny, had to work for everything we have, I feel fully justified in spending it on new cars, holidays, nice local farm shop food instead of lentils! Chicken stuffed with venison later.

Well, obviously there is increasing motivation to keep it "out of public view", which might help explain why about 75000 offshore companies are being established every month (and particularly by Europeans).

I reckon more and more money is being stuffed in mattresses these days, too.

"Buy land, they don't make it any more".

Those words have always stood me in good stead back in the UK and I was very happy to buy it fairly cheap in times of recession when others wouldn't touch it and were preaching doom and gloom.
Maybe not quite so simple here in Spain, though there's money to be made for those in the know .

One thing for sure, it's a little difficult for someone to come along and thieve it.
Even deserted buildings and factories that could have had a good future have been ripped to shreds and pillaged here in Spain.

Alternatively stuff it away in a very secure spot, though I wouldn't consider the mattress to be exactly ideal for any number of obvious reasons.

They do in the Bay of Gibraltar.

In the late 1980s Gibraltar increased it's size by 6%

Spain jumps up and down and screams everytime reclamation is mentioned in relation to Gib because of course they say it is illegal whilst doing massive reclamation works all around the bay themselves.

After the ECB backdown (possibly inspired by the fact the Cypriot govt were talking to the Russians), it may well transpire that the safest place to keep your money, is in a Cypriot bank!!!

I'd be wary of investing anywhere that the Ruskies have some clout.
They may well reach get some sort of agreement with the Cypriots, official or otherwise, but anyone else would be advised to proceed with care.

I recall the stampede to invest and start businesses in Russia just after Perestroika and a similar stampede to get out with their shirts still on their backs when Putin and his mafia thugs took over.

If you have enough of the stuff buy a live aboard yatch / motor sailer , registered off shore of course , live on it , move around the world whilst hanging off the stern with two fingers up , keep your savings offshore as well , do a bit of research into where politicians keep their dodgy money and put your legit hard earned cash there

Indeed you have, as well you know.

Victims of Valencia’s town planning laws, many of whom have lost their homes and been financially ruined by greedy local developers and politicians, were forced to take their complaints to Brussels when it became clear that the local administration saw them as nothing more than ungrateful whingers. The European parliament has condemned Spain 3 times since 2003 on this question.
Many of the victims would argue that the worst aspect of Valencia’s town planning law is the right it gives developers to propose planning schemes on land that doesn’t belong to them, forcing affected owners to give up land at a fraction of its true value, and contribute tens of thousands of Euros or more to the costs of urbanising the land lost.
