Can anyone tell me if you moved to Spain because it offers you a better deal financially than different countries?

For example, are tax rates lower? Are pensions or other payouts better? Do you avoid inheritance tax??

Or is all the comparable to what we have back here in the UK?

I can only talk for this area, and you dont make clear if you would be working or not.

The cost of living is definately lower, I estimated by 30% but of course the recent rate of exchange disaster has eliminated part of that. Of course that means nothing if you actually earn here in euros as the average salary is much lower than in the UK.

Tax rates for here for us are probably about the same, maybe slightly lower .... get yourself a creative gestor.

Cant help you with pensions as ours will be soley from the UK
You still pay Inheritance tax here, and it is quite steep as there are not many allowances unless you are leaving to another Spanish resident, i.e. your spouse.

We chose Spain 'cos :
Its easy to get to from the Uk to get back and forth if we need to
The cost of living is, as stated above lower
The life here is better, family values are still around, which seem to be fast disappearing in the UK.
The weather - ok we still get colder months, but all in all its far warmer here!
