Hi Mitzy
Did not mean to offend, or suggest I hate the English. We have a gang coming to our house to watch the match on Saturday in fact.
But in my opinion, the French and Spanish DO distinguish between the English and Welsh, Scots and Irish.
For example I asked my Spanish solicitor for an opinion on what to name my house in Spain, he said the name I had chosen, was good because it would show I was not English!
I can only speak from experience, but I too see the change in people's attitude when they realise that I am not English. It does not mean I agree with this attitude.
Regards,
Leighton

Back to the original thread. I think it is cruel to laugh at somebody´s attempt to speak the language so why do the Spanish laugh at my attempt to speak Spanish!!!!!!!
I have never had a problem with the French. When driving around Rheims at midnight trying to find a hotel in the middle of summer, we asked a French couple where the hotels were as we had been driving round in circles for hours and they very kindly went back to their car parked in their garage and told us to follow them taking us to a hotel. Kindness personified.
Good and bad in all nationalities including British.
