White goods - buy in Spain or bring with?
Hi folks,
We're thinking of all the nitty gritty stuff we need to organise now. We have white goods going spare here in the UK but were wondering if, should we need to buy anything for the house after we have completed, would it be cheaper to buy it in the UK/bring existing stuff with us, or buy in Spain. How do the prices compare for the likes of washing machines, driers and dishwashers - and please don't recommend the "husband" brand because the ongoing maintenance makes that brand the most expensive dishwasher I've ever had!!
Also, what about things like TVs - cheaper or more expensive in Spain? I have made the assumption that if we bring our stuff with us it will all work via a european adapter with which to plug it in. Is that so, or am I being silly?

Most resales in Spain include white goods. If you have to buy them, they are cheaper than they used to be.When we moved here 12 years ago, Spain was much more expensive;now, with the big shopping complExes, there's little if any difference.
Also, Considering the cost of removals and risk of damage, I think I would sell white goods in the UK.
TV- buy it in Spain. It's not worth the risk of breakage etc.

Our fridge cost me £200 in UK, the same fridge in Spain is over 1000€ here, washing machine £400uk is was about 600€ here. But on a different day it could be discounted
Saying that the cowboys damaged the fridge bringing it over, and now it has a horrible buzzing from the compressor which if back in UK could be fixed, ill probably sell the fridge on facebook as I found another cheap one here from someone moving back.
Everything works fine with EU adapter.
Cman says TV are similar priced, personally I don't agree, but

By all means bring what you have, but remember to factor in the cost of shipping. Any UK appliance will work in Spain, better to change the plug rather than adapter.
We found appliances were a little more expensive in Spain. When you factor in free delivery and installation provided by many shops, IMHO it is not worth the hassle to bring from UK. If you state the make and model TV and kitchen appliances you have / want.
Electricity supply can be prone to fluctuation in some areas. Beware "free" builder supply. It can work out expensive!!!! We had to replace microwave and a TV. I would suggest you get a surge protector for delicate appliances like a TV and PC.

We wanted a Panasonic 26", but they only start at 32" here.
For the best TV info, look up 'The Guy' on this site.

If you had asked the same question 5 years ago I would say bring what you want over with you, theses days there is very little difference in white goods, quality power tools are twice the price in Spain, eBay and Amazon mean it needn't be the case most of the time

If you are buying a resale house you may well get the white goods included. We sold ours fully furnished, evn down to bedding, towels, pots and pans. And the new owners got my lovely Bosch fridge-freezer and Rommer washing machine as well. And a five burner butano cooker. (Also a really huge deep TV , but it worked!!).
So I would not bring them over unless you know what sort of place you are moving into.

Take a look at the major store's websites where you can see the current pricing for yourselves, and then make a call on whether to bring them with you or not.
Don't recall the web addresses but google Wortens, Eroski, and Carrefour which will give you a pretty good idea of Spanish prices. There are also some online only retailers which may be cheaper If your Spanish isn't good look at them in Chrome which will translate on the fly.
We moved over 5 years ago and brought our freezer (still working perfectly), Home cinema, TV. We had our kitchen refitted soon as we moved in anyway so all new appliances but couldn't tell you the price of each one.
We have just replaced the TV with a 42" LG at a similar price to UK ( Worten had a 20% off day) and also bought a tumble drier, which was at least 50% more.. Just about to replace the Home Cinema amp and will buy that from Richer Sounds in the UK and bring it back as hold baggage.

You could try www.kelkoo.es as they will show the cheapest prices available.
As for the AV receiver, I recently bought a Panasonic AV receiver and it was cheaper on Amazon Spain than Amazon UK.

[QUOTE=Neptuno;11116394]Most resales in Spain include white goods.QUOTE]
The Estate Agents website said that appliances were included but the Contract of Sale specifically said that the dishwasher was excluded. We've asked if the seller would take an offer for it to save her the bother of transporting it and us the bother of replacing it given that we're only in Spain for five days after completion this time and we've family who would like to use the house during the Summer, so we don't want a gaping hole in the kitchen. We are also pretty sure there was a tumble drier on site when we viewed, but if she'll take a reasonable offer and the appliances are not old then again it would save us the hassle of having to use our holiday stressing about getting white goods in place before we need to fly back to the UK.

Depending on where you are moving to, Media Markt have a huge range both instore and online. You get a good idea of the price ranges there even if not buying.
Mediamarkt.es will locate store nearest to you as well.
Good luck with the move.
