hi,
I am searching for flat/house in Malaga area. I live in London and want to rent something from April 2014 onwards.
So far I came across those websites :
1. spainhouses.net
2. kyero.com
3. idealista.com
4. thinkspain.com
It seems over 90% of those ads are through agency, very few are private.
Therefore I decided that it's better option for me (considering living in UK at the moment) to get agency to find place best suited for me.
If you know any good&reliable letting agency in Malaga zone, please drop the link.

If you are planning to rent for a longer time then its better dont do it from abroad. Just book a cheap hostal for a week and look for your self, just walk around and look for signs "se aquila", pick up the free newspapers - read the ads and answer them. It is very easy to get fooled if you rent something whithout having seen it for real.

I am afraid I cannot afford to go there for a week and look for flats.
I plan obviously to fly over for few days and check chosen places, sign contract and pay if I like something. Go back London, pack my stuff on van and drive
