Where can you buy coal?

Where can you buy coal?
Not the time of year for this I know but it`s good to be prepared , has anyone ever come across a supplier of house coal in Andalucia? With 99% of log suppliers taking the ***s with silly prices it may prove cost effective to buy coal.

I am sure when I came to Spain, many regions did not allow coal to be burnt. I am sure it was an environmental based decision. I don't know the current situation.

I`d guess some power stations use it ,with a campo house I dont think I`d have any issues Its great for burning with poor quality or damp logs .

There were/are coal fired power stations yes, I meant coal for domestic house burning. As a coal/log fire lover from Scotland I know the pros and cons, they generate a heated debate though.
No I guess they would not bother you out in the campo.

I know 2 fields where the olive trees have been made redundant and pulled up.
most have been removed but there is still plenty lying around for the picking

Newcastle, so the say,
You'll probably need a big truck, as I don't think the colliers run out of the Tyne any more.
May not be very cost effective though, by the time you've topped up the diesel tank a few times at todays prices.

Usually it the roots that are left , these make useless firewood and usually get sold to unsuspecting Guiri`s

Coal is ok in a proper open grate, if you can get one here, but don't be useing it in a wood burning stove, it won't be able to cope with the higher temps.
I have never seen a stove suitable for burning coal in Spain.
I considered bringing one of Hungaries tiled stoves down (fabulous things) but with no coal about, not much point.

The only coal I have ever seen in Andalucia was in Dunns Stores, Coín. They had some at New Year. It was cleaned and giftwrapped for Scotish hogmanay.

Neighbour used to bring it out in his hand luggage before the silliness

Quite right Mr Mouse, good quality coal would probably burn out the grate and the chimney as well, unless designed to handle it.
I believe there is coal up in some Northern regions. I seem to recall one particular coal mining area up there, possibly around Oviedo.
