What are you using for ID?

We've just got spanish driving licences as we were sick of carrying our passports around. We were told you don't need them in Spain now as the UK licence will do but we only had the paper UK licences as we had never applied for the photo ones back home.
I think the whole point about ID is that it has a photo on it as well as having been issued by an appropriate EU government authority.

Exactly, and that may be the reason why the Gardia impound your car until you produce your passport and not accept the photocopy.
Even if it is a certified copy they may still want to see the original.

Now I think it is time to fit a number plate on the bike, can't push one's luck too much these days.

And even if you are not driving they have every right to arrest you until you get somebody to bring your passport to the Guardia station.
If you are billy no mates it could be a while. lol

Seriously, I have no idea if a law still exists for Citizens to carry ID, but most of us aint citizens, we're foreign residents. There have been numerous instances of peeps like us being stopped and being severely chastised for not havong ID

Still no one has given a definite answer as to whether a Spanish driving license is a legally valid form of ID.

According to Wikipedia, regarding ID in Spain: A police officer can require it to be shown, but non-compliance won't lead to arrest and detention unless there are other lawful reasons for it. If a policeman requests ID, you can just ask him to come with you to the place where you keep it.

OK but if that's so then I think there may be a little disparity between what is written that should happen and what will actually happen.
Frankly tbh I can't see the local plod here happily coming back to my pad for a chat and a look at my passport

I tend to agree with mitzy as I don`t think any Guardia will write in there that it`s ok to have no ID.
