What I can't get is, that Labour appear to be oblivious to the fact that losing circa 50 Scottish seats at Westminster makes them totally unelectable.

Why do you think they are oblivious that? As I understand it Labour in both England and Scotland are pressing to keep the union.

The English would not be voting for Scottish independence though, they would be voting for English independence.
Shetland and Orkney want no part of Salmond's dream either, they could well go on their own and take all their oil with them, or remain part of UK. Angus MacNeil, the SNP’s rural affairs spokesman, told the BBC that both Shetland and Orkney would be permitted to remain part of the UK regardless of the referendum result “if there was a big enough drive for self-determination†among their residents. If they did not join a separate Scotland, he said the islands would retain control over a “fair fraction†of the North Sea oil and gas that Alex Salmond is relying on to fund public services. The Western Isles MP was reacting to a submission to the Government’s consultation on the referendum by the MSPs for Shetland and Orkney, who warned the islands could opt to remain part of the UK even if the rest of Scotland votes to separate. |

All the action will be taking place in France this year. Spain will drag on pretty much as it has done for the last few years. If the UK economy keeps growing then interest rates will rise slightly, the pound will reach €1.30 and there might be more demand for Spanish property from UK buyers, although this would be scratching the surface of the Spanish property market.

http://economia.elpais.com/economia/...58_716014.html I don't think demand from UK buyers would make a huge difference to the property market overall, the headline numbers won't improve until domestic demand picks up. |

At least the stock of unsold new properties went down by 6.9% during 2013. One more indication that things are moving, albeit slowly, in the right direction.

Re: What will happen in 2014?
The UK Pound will settle at circa €1.30, Spain will pursue it's beloved Modele 720 with vigor but little success, the UK's love affair with everything Spanish will start to cool as financial reality starts to be taken seriously. Cameron and Osborne will continue to be the gloom and doom merchants, whilst Milligoon talks his master's (the public sector unions) talk. My MP Nick Clegg will start to work on his electoral appeal, with some success, whilst Nigel Farage realises that UKIP could actually win a handful of seats at the next GE if he doesn't f**k up.
All in all 2014 doesn't look like a winner to me, but if I get out of it alive I'll at least be a year older. ;) |
Re: What will happen in 2014?
Spain will be getting as little tax as possible from us, as we have just done the paperwork to be non residents.
So we will be moving around a lot more. We will be uk tax payers for all intents and purposes, as we both would rather pay more of our tax to a country (UK) that at least does lip service to helping the poorer old, and disabled, unlike Spain. In that respect is Spain could be added to the list of uncivilised countries in the world. |
