The main difference between the islands and the mainland is that, in winter, they can get affected by the very strong NW winds coming from France, either the Mistral or the Tramontana. Menorca is the worst affected as it is further out into the Med.
The difference between the Costa Brava and the south is pronounced. It is much colder and wetter in the winter. The Costa Blanca is very similar for temperatures with the CDS but usually wetter, particularly in Autumn when the Gota Fria arrives.

When I google the weather for my region, the forecasts are very different, the temperature being 10 degrees either way.I know it is just that, a forecast, but you would think they would be pretty similar.

Mallorca has a "mediterranean" climate, while much of Spain has a more "continental" climate, except for the coasts, but even then, you have to be close to the coast to get a "coastal" climate...
...whereas in Mallorca you're always close to the "coast" and hence, a more "coastal" climate virtually everywhere, notwithstanding high in the mountains or in the very center of the island (where, incidentally, it's always a bit warmer).

Was in Mallorca last week visiting friends up in Pollenca and they must get a fair bit of rain as they grow sheep. Looked a bit like Somerset but with more sunshine. Beautiful area seemed very different to Southern Spain to me but perhaps not all Mallorca is the same didn't have time to find out, maybe I have seen the best of the area.
