Weather

First decent day of the year, able to sit out all day in the sun.

Just looked over on the returns thread, and people are saying that it's days like this that make it all worthwhile returning to the UK.

Oddly, one good day doesn't seem to compensate me for the completely sh*te summer last year (Three days like today in the whole four months of summer.)

Or, for that matter for all the miserable, grey, wet, totally crap days we have had so far this year.

I hope for another miserable summer in the UK if im here for it, even though It depresses me on initial wake up, it brings in good money

Yeah. 'Oh look, no cloud there again!'

You know, when we went to exchange on the property 4 years ago, we stayed in Cadiz itself for a week.

To have a blue sky all day everyday was so alien, that it genuinely felt as tho we were on another planet.

I remember saying to my wife, 'Look. The whole sky is blue. All the way from east to west, and all the way from north to south. It's been like that all week, and it will be like that all next week, more likely than not.'

Yeah, but you know you will get bored after about 20 years....

Re: Weather

"Yeah, but you know you will get bored after about 20 years...."

Well, with respect, you don't know me. I shall be more than happy to take the risk!

Like the guy who said he would rather be miserable and rich than miserable and poor, I would rather risk boredom with good weather than continue with the certainty of boredom with grey skies.

Plus, I don't think I will. I have endured crap weather for so long that a reliable good climate comes as a delightful change.

I don't mind people saying that there is a risk of it, I just resent being told as a certainty that I will get bored and want to come back to the UK.

If you'd been thru what I have over the last 20 years, I think you'd feel the same.

Do you really like the crap weather we get in the UK?

LOVELY WEATHER in essex today, had me rushing out with lawn mower in hand, nearly sunk though as the ground is so soggy.

Mild and sunny in Northants, so much so that my youngest child went to a barbecue in nearby woods.

Had to cut the grass today, so that'll now be a weekly chore. Still, if it goes OK, after September I won't have to again.

25 more cuts or so.

bil, you will have to stop being touchy. It was meant tongue in cheek. No offence was meant by it. Yes, I am fed up with the UK weather... didn`t have a blink of a summer at all last year. No, I don`t know you. Ive found from your posts that sometimes you are very, very helpful and sometimes you are not.

Hi Sam. GG will be in hiding. It`s gorgeous and sunny here too. Not terribly warm though but at least the wind and the rain has stopped and my hair isn`t whipping my face.

Very very windy here - and it actually rained last night  Haven't seen rain in weeks we looked at each other in surprise when we heard it raining and looked out the door.....can't see us doing that when we are back in Lancs

bil Mar 30th 2008 10:28 pm

Re: Weather

Debs, no offence taken, and thanks for the apology.

I always try and be honest. Sometimes I post things that people like, and sometimes things they don't, but unless someone attacks me, I'm usually pretty polite. I committed the henious crime of suggesting to returnees that had gone out in a rose tinted dream, that they should look long and hard at the UK without the rose tinting before coming back, and that the UK wasn't perfect, and had a less than perfect climate. Was that then so bad? Simply agreeing with people is dishonest and sometimes downright unhelpful.

I immediately got jumped on, presumably because they didn't want anything that interfered with their mindset.

Never mind. The only thing that really irritates is when people make absolute assumptions. You WILL get bored, you WILL miss the UK, and so on. None of those are certainties, and some of us do buck the odds.

I certainly intend to.

Back to the weather, which has reverted to the normal grey.

Re: Weather

We have been here five years and were always and still are being asked, "dont you get bored", er no is the answer, always have something to do apart from sitting in the sun, house still needs to be kept up , bills still need to be paid but would not change it, todays weather was again glorious, blue skies and sunny 24dg's very nice:D

bil Mar 31st 2008 4:49 am

Re: Weather

Oh how I envy you. I'd love to have the chance to get bored, but like you, I feel that it would take a long time to get bored, if indeed it ever happened.

Karma on its way to a kindred spirit.

valenciatim Mar 31st 2008 4:55 am

Re: Weather

Boredom? What's that then? As pwwm says, always something to do!
The first few months, if the weather allows, certainly spend in the sun. But after a while, you end up only doing that if you have visitors as that's what they want to do!

You also forgot the house to paint (like the Forth Bridge), the pool to paint/ clean, the bills to check in case you didn't receive them, the lemon trees, the figs, the almonds, the watering system, the gas bottles, the water tanks etc!!!
Life goes on, then you have to find time for work!
