What would you prefer a fishy flavoured non meat object to look like.

If your copying scampi, you make a veg alternative look like scampi.

Same with veggie burgers, sausages etc.

If you think logically there isn`t many shapes you can make.

So why be a veggie if you think you are eating a sausage.:confused:

Quorn mince is 4e a bag round here so I use finely chopped veg & lentils - far cheaper & just as nice. In fact my veggie chilli is better than my meaty one, now replaced the quorn with aforementioned veg.

I bought Quorn at Asda for 1 GBP per bag in uk so can´t justify 4e at currebt rates of exchange.

Being a veggie here is challenging, by the time you have explained you may as well have cooked it yourself.

Even the salads have meat or tuna in them.

I believe that Spain maybe is a good place because its kitchen also has the Mediterranean Diet (Dieta Mediterranea) based on the vegetables and the fish. I believe that there will be more options in the salads, there are many things

Correct me if I am wrong, but did you just say Spain is a good place for vegetarians because its diet is based on vegetables and fish??????

In my opinion, yes. I don't say that it is the best place in the world, I don't know if there will be other places, but of all the sections of the Spanish gastronomy, one is the mediterranean diet, generally based on vegetables and fish. Maybe this can be ideal for a vegetarian

As a veggie eating out in Spain is, IMO, is a waste of time unless you want to eat omelette, chips and salad or search out a restaurant before you go out.
Cooking veggie in Spain is quite different and the jars of chickpeas, lentils etc can be a blessing.
If you like spicy food it can be a bit difficult to get some of the spices again unless you are living in Southern Spain and Gibraltar has some good spice shops.
Pack a pressure cooker - I can't live without mine for soups and cooking beans etc.

Relampago, vegetarians don't eat fish.
That's one of the misconceptions/problems faced when eating out.

edit...what happened to the other 2 posts just now'!

Relampago.....I wasn't referring to the quality of the fish, just the fact that VEGETARIANS CAN'T EAT FISH!!!

This is why some people have posted on here complaining that when they ask for a vegetarian salad, it comes with tuna on it!!!! Tuna is not vegetarian food, but for some reason this seems to be a very difficult concept for the Spanish to grasp.

Ooops, sorry Hillbilly, just seen you have already answered this.

Re: vegetarians in Spain

To be fair to Relampago, I've met plenty of British "so-called" vegetarians who say they don't eat meat, but then admit to occasionally eating fish. I've even met Brits who say "yes, I'm mainly vegetarian, but I do sometimes eat fish or chicken!!!" Go figure! I think it stems from the church, when they used to encourage people not to eat flesh of animal on a Friday, so eating fish (ie not meat) became popular on a Friday.
There are plenty of meals you can eat in Spain that don't contain meat eg pisto, gazpacho, tortilla etc. I suppose the problem is that a lot of soups or stews often contain bits of jamon.
