Re: vegetarians in Spain
Tell me about it! I was kept waiting longer than usual last week for my salad.
The chef added tuna at no extra cost, without telling me!! The first mouthful was not in my mouth long:thumbdown: |
Re: vegetarians in Spain
What's available will depend on whereabouts you're going. In touristy areas, some of the big supermarkets stock things such as veggie sausages and burgers. If you're off the tourist beaten track, they don't.
Most towns have a "health food" store where you can sometimes pick up tinned veggie patés. Otherwise, in my experience, for quorn or soya mince type stuff you will have to find a "Brit shop". Eating out as a veggie in Spain ain't fun! |
Re: vegetarians in Spain
I can't get quorn and the likes in the supermarket though I'm told that in some more british areas they are available.
There's a herb/spice shop near me which sells dried soya but really just veg and pulses do me at home. The hard part is eating out.... |
Re: vegetarians in Spain
As long as you come to the understanding that fish, chicken, bacon, eggs are all vegetarian foods you'll do fine.

Re: vegetarians in Spain
Where I live if you ask for something veggie they just chop up the jamon into smaller piece's;) The only place that sells veggie stuff here is the Brit shop, I don't think I have seen it in the other supermarkets. Good luck and welcome to the site.

You can get quorn in El Corte Ingles but it is expensive.

Thanks for all your replies.
Looks like I will be requesting regular food parcels from family in England! |
Re: vegetarians in Spain
We eat veggie quite a lot and I don´t have a problem finding things to cook with. All supermarkets sell lentils and other kinds of beans and, of course, vegetables. A great, in my opinion, veggie tapa is deep fried aubergine (berenjena). I don´t know where you are moving to but here, in Chiclana, I know that the local health food shop sells veggie sausages and tofu.

Re: vegetarians in Spain
If you are staying any where near Torrevieja there is / was an excellent veggie / vegan restaurant nr the front by the blue wavy fountain.
The frontage was vividly coloured last time I was there and the food is amazing. As in great  |

Make sure you don`t move to a village that kills pigs as a festival in the town square every year.
Try these sites for suppliers in Spain, many deliver throuhout Spain, maybe cheaper than shipping from UK. http://vegetarianismo.net/ http://www.euroresidentes.com/restau...getarianos.htm http://www.paginasamarillas.es/cocin...iana_1000.html http://www.portalvegetariano.com/tienda-del-portal/ http://www.mundovegetariano.com/ http://www.laboutiquevegetariana.com/ http://www.rerumnatura.es/catalogo/l...GETARIANA&Dep= This is in English http://www.recapte.com/htmlish/present_ish.htm |
