We are purchasing on CE (Las Encinas, Portal 2, overlooking the communal pool) at the moment and I have read this thread with interest. Have been told by our Estate Agent, so should be taken with a pinch of salt I suppose!! that a Saudi group are looking at the hotel with a view to opening a Casino. Each district is only allowed one and apparantly ours hasnt yet had the licence taken up, this could be of benifit if it materializes.
We have mulled over for months whether to buy and prices have certainly dropped since we first looked 3 yrs ago.
Visited CE last week tho and was surprised how much it had matured as impressions 3 yrs ago were certainly not so good.
I loved JAGS and hope this survives to give a focal point to the development, I believe if you are in it for the long haul it is a good buy at the moment, whats the worst that can happen? A place in the sun, in a lovely part of Spain, I'd take a punt

Saudi Arabia adheres to the austere Wahhabi denomination of Sunni Islam, so that gambling is strictly illegal in the Saudi Arabian kingdom.

Sounds a bit like all those Disney developments that were going to be on the CDS. Very inventive those estate agents

Which Agent is telling you this!!!!!!
The Wahhabi's, as JDR indicates, would love to know this.
So would Jag and will love to hear his operation could be the focal point to the CE development.
Get Real! If you read the specialist Spanish Press about CE you will quickly find out CE is paralysed and JDR was only half joking about the Wahhabis!

We do golf as it happens and pay to play every year in Portugal, CE is a practical option for our hobby, would love to join the Club and play all year but too busy working at this moment in time. I did say to take it with a pinch of salt about the casino, we certainly did!! We are lookinbg forward to buying on CE as we think it is a lovely place, lets hope it becomes everything we all wish it to be

How sad that people can be so easily taken in by this rubbish. The most important factor for the future of that resort is the success of the TWO golf courses. Without them the place is worth nothing! I don't read on here that the people who are buying up these cheap properties are joining the golf club with their savings.
I think we all know the state of paralysis CE has been/is in without being told but as a whole, property is cheap and it is selling. If that trend continues then invariably commercial enterprises will be attracted to the site, whether this will be enough to save the second Golf Course again I don't know and neither do you, only time will answer that.

I too have heard the same story and not from someone trying to sell to me, maybe there is something in it, maybe there is not. I don't know and neither do you and between you to use the argument that Saudis don't gamble is laughable as is the irrelevant nonsense about Disney sites on the CDS. Some Saudi's do gamble they just don't do it in their own country, they also own hotel chains around the world and some have Casinos and as for comparing a Casino with a Disney Park, well.....!!! The second Golf Course is of course important but it's predicament is hardly surprising considering all the issues of the past few years. What expertise can you draw on to use as a base for your analysis that all property on CE will be totally worthless if Golf 2 were to fail completely? And yes I do and will play Golf

They've done me again!!The contractual period is irrelevant. If it's a success then Aymerich look to renew if it isn't they look to wriggle out of the contract same with any business anywhere and given the unfinished state of Costa Esuri when they took the contract on it's obvious that they wouldn't have committed for a long period anyway.
If everything was as nailed down at Costa Esuri as you think it should be then there would be no bargains and prices would be in line with the rest of the area as was pointed out earlier in the thread.
And finally, as you clearly don't like a punt I trust we won't be seeing you in the new 'Saudi Super Casino' when it opens for business next week!!

I just thought you might have known! somehow I think I saw it on here that it was 10 years. I believe Aymerich were the company who opened it after the first mentioned management company pulled out before it was ready. This was when Costa Esuri was developing at a pace and looking good for them. They badly need a Hotel on site to compete with the others in the area offering golf packages. A Casino isn't going to help Aymerich much but anything done with those unfinished buildings is bound to improve the overall
look of the place.

Not sure to be honest but I know that another company was involved originally. The hotel is key of course but the first thing that had to happen was property being sold again and thanks to the Banks repossessing large chunks of the development that has now happened. If MF had been allowed to sit on it all for much longer I dread to think what may happened. What happens now no one knows for sure but the last 6 months have been mostly positive, Las Encinas now mostly sold, Rago 3 being sold, private villas being built. The only significant additional negative being the issues with Golf 2 which again none of us currently knows the answer to.
One FIVE star hotel.
Two FOUR star hotels.
Shopping Mall with resteraunts!
TWO championship golf courses!
Its well short of that isn't it?
