Default Valencia- Gandia Train

Does anybody know if you can buy your ticket on the train.A friend is coming to visit but the Gandia train leaves about 6 minutes after their train arrives in Valencia Nord.In an ideal world there would be enough time to buy the ticket at the office but then it isn't an ideal world.

I get that train regularly but the tickets are rarely checked so I would have thought that it would be impossible to buy it on the train unless they were lucky. The trains are every 30 minutes so maybe it would be better to get the next train to Gandia. Just realised that they could not even get onto the platform without their ticket.

Sadly it's a Sunday evening Rosemary and the next train is an hour and 35 minutes later, and in true RENFE fashion you can't book "on-line".

Typical. What I said before about not getting onto the platform would not be relevant as they would already be in that area of the station but of course if they get on the train and then could not buy their ticket they would not be able to get out of the station at the other end because the ticket operates the barrier.

Have you asked at the Gandia station about buying a ticket in advance and sending it to your friend.

Six minutes would not be that bad as it is a Sunday because I would have thought that there would be few people queueing at the ticket office. Now this is a time when you would want them to not run on time but Renfe are brilliant at keeping to the timetable.

I understand that the Valencia - Gandia service is hourly on Sundays.

Unless things have changed fairly recently you cannot travel without a valid ticket.
Some years ago I was sold the wrong ticket on that service, probably as a result of my limited Spanish.
I had a hell of a job explaining it was an innocent mistake to a ticket inspector on the train.

Does this help? It looks as though your friends may buy a through ticket to Gandia at their departure station. http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/lar...cercanias.html

At Valencia Nord, there are ticket machines so you don't have to queue at a counter. We normally buy our tickets at the machines and have never encountered a queue. That said, 6 minutes isn't long to get off a train, go to the tickets machines, buy a ticket and get back to the Gandia platform. And don't they close the doors two minutes before departure "for safety reasons"?

Good luck to your friends.

Really! An hour and half. What they need to do is get into the Spanish way of thinking.

Mañana. Relax, read a paper, have a drink, catch the next train

You would think they'd synchronise services to give a little more time from when the Barcelona train arrives, but then isn't that railway services the world over.

I think it would be fair to say after what has just happened in Belgium, that waiting for transport links isn't the fun experience it used to be.
