I tried the QR code and it dished out lots of tariffs (also from Endesa) which seem a lot (even 35%) cheaper than what I'm currently paying.

I really don't get what's going on because looking at the Endesa ONE 3 Periodos tariff for instance I see the following prices listed (without discounts):
Punta 0,2250; Llano 0,1700; Valle 0,1330 €/kWh.

Even the more expensive Tempo 3 Periodos tariff has:
Punta 0,271000; Llano 0,216000; Valle 0,179000; €/kWh

Which seems crazy given that on my current bill (flat 24/7 price) I see a massive 0,283566 Eur/kWh price tag.

P.S. Even more surprisingly the Endesa ONE Luz has 0.1700 €/kWh.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the comparison site. The Endesa ONE Luz price is practically the same as I'm currently paying with Iberdrola for a flat rate tariff. Personally I find it better to be on a flat rate as I can't be bothered to think about what time to put the washing machine on or do the ironing, and as you can see it can often be cheaper anyway. That's why I told you that just because 49% of your usage is in the "cheap" time period, it doesn't necessarily mean that you would save money by changing to the 3-period tariff.

You're right, it does seem very, very similar. I ran the numbers on the ONE luz & ONE 3 Periodos tariffs using my usage data and the final bill would come out virtually the same (literally 2% difference).

What I don't get is why my current tariff, even though it's a 24/7 one, is even more expensive than the Punta price of any of those 3-level plans...

Endesa won't tell you that you would be better off on their latest tariff.

Try Imagina. Their current 24/7 price is 0.159

It would depend on the date you signed up for that tariff. If that was at a time when prices were very high, then you stay on that price even though a new, cheaper tariff becomes available. It is up to us, the customers, to be vigilant and change tariffs when prices fall - unfortunately. I changed to Iberdrola last May - I was on a flat rate tariff for 12 months with Naturgy which was due to come to an end and they advised me that the new price would be €0.39 per kwh. No thanks, I thought.

I'm shocked at how much our Spanish electricity bills have come down in recent months. It's right down to the dizzy lows of €98.00 this month!

But compare the potencia charges as well. Their price per kwh is €0.01 less than I am paying with Iberdrola, but their potencia charges are very slightly higher so would cancel out the difference.

I was with Iberdrola but they increased my annual contract by 40%. Before the prices shot up,I went to Imagina on a 3 year fixed price contract (with no permanencia) for 0.13/kwh

I am now paying the same as I was 10 years ago and over that time, with lots of switches, it has been the same every year. It needs to be as I use over 12000 kw/h per year!

if you or anyone are residents and have a low income or are handicapped you can talk to the local social worker in your town hall and get a special rate. I think it is fixed at 15 cents....

Looking at the bill I see that our potencia is at 3.45kW which is why from time to time the circuits trip and everything goes back to the Stone Age for a brief while. Family of 2+2 in a decent-sized apartment probably needs a bit more potencia, but it's mainly kitchen equipment that causes our rare but self-inflicted blackouts.

I wasn't aware of this - so you can basically lock-in a price for 3 years by signing a contract, but at any time during those 3 years you can still cancel the contract and move to a different electricity provider? Seems like a convenient way to guarantee yourself a good rate... and then be able to switch anyway if even better rates show up elsewhere.

I guess you're on a tariff which follows the spot price (probably regulated)? That was a pretty disastrous in 2022 but perhaps a good choice this year.

We have 5.75kw potencia, in an all electric apartment, and still manage to trip the supply occasionally if we switch the kettle on at the same time the oven and one or two rings on the induction hob are on, plus the fridge-freezer and the tv being on. You soon learn which are the appliances to be wary of putting on when other things are in use - those rapid boil electric kettles use at least 3kw and my hairdryer is over 2kw.

Yes, the sin permanencia fixed rate contracts are good and your understanding is correct. Switching suppliers is very easy, can all be done online by just going through the contratar process with your chosen new supplier (other than, in my experience, they send you two hard copies of the new contract in the post, one for you to keep and the other to sign and return to them). You don't need to contact the old supplier at all.

Yes, there is a very small levy on everyone's bill to fund the cost of this - a good thing, I think.

Yes, I think we are. At its worst, we paid €250 one month but it has been decreasing ever since.

What is the best way to find the different Spanish energy companies for comparison? I have only ever been with Endesa and really must look into things. Does anyone know what choice of supplier we have in Marina Esuri?
