Your wrong if Sky find out your in Spain or anywere else outside the UK they cut you off.. I know people who said they lived in UK and brought their Sky Box and card with them and were cut off by SKY.. sky rang my son and said that the Box he had was in the Canarie Isles and they cut him off.. Sky is like the i player with things in the boxes to tell them if your outside the UK.
Did you not read my post properly

Thats what I said!!!!
If you tell them, they will cut you off. I have never heard of SKY being able to know where your box is. The only way they knew with the example you described was if someone told them. What do you think ...... SKY have detectors in the SKY boxes????
If you speak to them by SKYPE or by one of the Internet phone systems, they cant tell. If you were to ring them on a Spanish phone then it would be a different thing althogethr

SKY is a satellite system beamed from high high up in the sky as if by magic, whereas the iPlayer system is through the internet, twigs your IP address through your provider and knows exactly where you are. I wasn't aware you had a box with iPlayer

The only way that Sky can know if a Sky card is being used in a different country is if someone tells them.
"Hello, I have a problem with my Sky"
"Whats your Sky card number"
"1321456456"
"Where do you live"
"Spain"
Card gets cut off.
There is no other way they can know of Sky card being used in Spain.
They do this as they have found out you have breached the T&Cs of the SKy contract - card is only for use in the UK and ROI.
"i said they can find out your not in the UK" - only if you tell them. then its your fault for being stupid and telling them you are using the card where it shouldnt be.
"Sky is like the i player with things in the boxes to tell them if your outside the UK." - there is nothing inside the sky boxes that do this at all.
Also, there are no restrictions on a sky box outside the UK and ROI, unless that box is part of a Sky multiroom contract, or a Sky discounted installation agreement. You can use your own "non discounted / not provided buy sky / not part of a multiroom contract" sky box wherever you want.
There are no GPS inside the boxes or cards that let Sky know where the boxes and cards are.
There are IP address restrictions if you use a Sky box with an adsl line to get iplayers and Sky+Anytime, just as you would if you tried to get these on the tinternet
Connecting a Sky box to a Spanish phone line will do nothing - apart from get you a "incorrect number" from the Spanish service - as it is dailing a UK numbe without any prefixes.
"sky rang my son and said that the Box he had was in the Canarie Isles and they cut him off" - well of course they cut the card, he told them it was being used in Spain, and thus they know it is in Spain, breach of contract, so they cut the card off !
there is notihng, apart from the customer saying so, that can alert Sky that a card and box is being used in Spain. sky boxes are not bugged. sky cards are not bugged. dishes can only receive signals, they do not send signals, so cannot send signal to sky saying this box is not in the UK. only people calling them up and saying "my card is in spain" can they cut you off. so i would be delighted if you can tell me how "they can find out your not in the UK", if there is no tech inside the card, box, and you dont tell them.?
"SKY are not licenced to broadcast in Spain" - better to say that that channels on Sky UK only buy the programme rights for the UK. This is controlled by only issuing Sky UK cards to UK addresses.
"pretty obvious that SKY are quite aware of what happens" - you only habve to listen to ian botham (works on Sky!) on Sky Sports saying he watches Sky at home in Marbella. Blind ignorance. They will take the money until they know the card is in breach of the contract. IF they dont know it is in breach, they will not cancel. So dont tell them its in Spain!

I know of people here who have had SKY for over 6 years here. They have upgraded to HD whilst they have been here, with no problems at all. The local English bars all have SKY.
I dont know what else to tell you
