And yes, if your LR has any mods that are not factory fitted or approved by LR you will not be able to register it in Spain.
Not true , you can register it but you will need an engineers report. usually around 600 to 700 euros

You may also need a certificate from the manufacturer of the parts - that happened to me with bull bars on a 4x4 during the normal ITV. I also had to have the certificate from the people who fitted them.

If not factory fitted this type of item can be fitted later and vehicle immediately taken to ITV and added to car spec so no need to produce at a later stage. Otherwise if unable to locate paperwork, remove item before ITV and replace after it.

The problem with the bull-bars was that they did not need to be on the car's paperwork until they changed the law 2 years ago - it had passed all the previous ITVs with no problem and the first I knew about it was when it failed.

Another piece of devious back dated legislation!

I had bull bars and steps fitted one month after buying mine new and was told to take to ITV station to get them added to vehicle spec. Unfortunately totally ignored advice and last September when came time for first MOT turned up at centre only to be told that all documentation was pre some law change and advised to go back to company who fitted them for up to date documentation.

Said to man dont have time so he said go back outside and get someone to remove them, which I did and same man replaced them once passed through ITV centre. 5 euros.

Once again every place seems to have different interpretations of law/rules

That`s interesting, I sold mine about three years ago, I wonder if the new owner failed with it.

They are not all illegal - some do conform to the safety requirements.

Those that were fitted prior to that date are OK so long as they have been through the ITV with the right paperwork.

The problem with taking them off for the test is that as you say, they are now illegal so if you have them and they are not on the Ficha Tecnica the police could take great exception to them.

Could get you a roadside fine with traffico and invalidate your insurance

Not illegall if fitted and noted on ficha technica pre 2008 but illegal there on ,speak to any engineer and they will tell you it can no longer be done, winch bars without the top loop are another matter .

Here's one that is EU approved - not pretty though!

Apparently they can be approved but only if they improve pedestrian safety - not easy to do!

They are now called Frontal Protection Systems (FPS). The protection in this context applies to pedestrians, not the car.

The old ones did seem to work quite well, it certainly seemed to keep the bulls off the road - I haven't seen one for ages.
