The only way you can get a valid UK MOT is by taking the car back to the UK.

You cannot do it in Gibraltar.

By the sounds of it, your UK registered car is in Spain all year? In which case you are breaking the law, and effectively have no Insurance either, are you aware of that?

Once again - you cannot get a UK MOT outside the UK - what do you find difficult to understand about that?

And yes, if your LR has any mods that are not factory fitted or approved by LR you will not be able to register it in Spain.

remove the mods, return it to factory standard, transfer it.

or, leave the mods, get them inspected and certified, then transfer it.

or drive back to the uk and mot it.

BUT you do realise, as above, that using a car for more than 6 months in spain that is not matriculated in spain is illegal (or more that 2 months if you are resident), and as above, your insurance is invalid?

there is NO WAY to get a *LEGAL* uk mot while living outside the uk.

I'm picking my grandson and daughter up from the airport tomorrow in my legal Spanish car, and if I didn't have one I would be picking them up with a licensed taxi.

Having said that, I'm aware of the thousands of illegal British cars over here, which have been here for years, whose owners wouldn't know what resdencia is, and the padron is a total mystery to them.

That's their affair, but they must curse every time they come across the blind spot when joining a motorway or turning into a sharp right hand bend. I know you can insure an English registered car here, but you can't pay the Spanish tax even if you wanted to.

You could try and use a UK insurance company, but if you dont conform with the rules of the insurance, then it wont be valid.

Surely if you need a car in Spain permanently then you should either get it matriculated or buy a Spanish car???????
