Jacob's biscuits? Plenty of salty cracker stuff in the likes of Lidl..why restrict yourself to a marketed brand?
You have a good point with a certain type of beer (I'm lucky as I prefer the continental lagers). I understand that the craft beer movement is growing fast in certain parts of Spain.

edit = oops, Dom already answered in much the same vein, still maybe my beer links may be of interest to someone...

no problem, in fact I prefer a good Stilton, well matured and/or soaked in a good port for a couple of weeks

and I prefer craft beers, just not so sure I can get any down here
:D

The only beer that expats in Spain seem to drink is the Lidls crap cans.

When I arrived to live here I did miss and hankered after some good old british brands.. but after a few very expensive trips to Iceland etc. and some advice from friends to try the Spanish brands, I can now say I can't fault the local produce be it salad cream or sauces or cheeses.. I, like a few of you forum regulars came here to live the Spanish lifestyle and not just a little England in the sun, I found my little paradise here and love trying new tastes all the time.. my new neighbours are always trying to tempt me with their fayre.. and needless to say the pounds are creeping on my waistline, not helped any by the wine that goes along with the goodies. I can't think of anywhere on earth I would rather be.. just wish my prince was here to share with me full time..

What on earth is wrong with wanting to buy products like Cheddar cheese in Spain?

People in the UK go to great lengths to buy real Manchego cheese at vastly inflated prices.

They also pay ludicrous prices for Serrano ham so is it wrong to pay a high price in Spain for real "York" ham or Branston pickle or real back bacon?

Re: UK Groceries

Yes true. Some specialist manchego in Waitrose is about £32 per kilo. Although some of the gourmet ones in Spain are expensive too. Spanish ham tends to be cheaper than many in Spain, the main seller and more expensive in the UK is the italian Prosciutto. I really did miss the choice of English cheeses, especially a good old mature cheddar or a crumbly Cheshire

I always found that the sellers of English food in Spain sold mainly cheap stuff like beans, packet soups, Fray Bentos pies and other stuff from the 70's. On the CDS Supersol stocked English suet packets.

Cream crackers.

I've been away too long.

Going back to the original poster.
I know Tesco deliver to France, so possibly Spain too. Have a look at their web site.
Friends of ours who live in France put their order in on-line once a month and pay something like a 20% surcharge + delivery if I remember correctly.
Not something we would do. But if it makes you happy why not? :)

I have investigated The Corner Shop and their online shop and the prices didnt seem too bad.
Just depends on what you want and when as to whether the carriage charges are acceptable.

I bought some York ham the other day from a Spanish butcher but I have to say it was pretty tasteless.. wouldn't bother again.

You should try some good Galician lacon. Although it may still seem a little bland if you are used to serranos and chorizos.

Cheddar Cheese, do you mean the real stuff from Somerset of that tastless solid wallpaper glue cheese labled as Cheddar that could come from almost anywhere in the world.
Iberica ham, or processed ham from pork from who knows where ???

Not quite true.
The animal welfare aspect of the food we eat is significant. Spain is still lagging behind the rest of Europe in implementing minimum standards for factory hens and they're flouting EU wide bans on sow stalls and other bad practices. [ source: Farmer's Weekly: www.fwi.co.uk ]

And so far as food diversity goes: where would Britain be without curries, french/foreign wine, chinese takeaway and every other meal the country has "imported" from elsewhere?
