Echoing Fred’s comment, we faithfully voted via postal ballots until our 15 year cut-off in 2020.

We re-registered to vote in May in Northamptonshire. Here we sit on Wednesday July 3rd on Vancouver Island, Canada. Needless to say, no postal ballots!

You will probably eventually receive them with underpaid postage !

I had mine sent to my UK home as we were visiting for a short time and luckily they arrived quite quickly (LB of Hillingdon), it does seem to be hit and miss based on the local authority.

After registering as overseas voter did you also apply to your local authority to vote by post? You have to do both and should receive confirmation that you have successfully registered to vote by post. Other option is proxy. I had a problem registering for postal vote as i had to supply a signature which they didnt like as dark blue not black, i had to send another signature but then got my confirmation, it was all completed via email.

raised concerns about the reliability of the postal system in parts of Asia and other parts of the world.
⠀‹Obviously I can't comment on the post in Asia but I can say that this year we (in Hungary) received ours in good time - because it was shipped direct by Royal Mail instead of via Deutsch post in Frankfurt, or via Malta.

Just looked through my old emails from my UK local authority re voting. I thought it was every three you had to register as an overseas voter but it annually. As mentioned earlier we always get a reminder when we need to renew ours.

My last confirmation says it lasts one year and that they will remind me 3 months before expiry by email. Maybe next years renewal will be for 3 years. For some reason i thought that was what it used to be mind as i get older my memory gets a little foggy these days .

Looks like it may vary between councils:

Overseas elector’s declarations must be renewed approximately every three years. A renewal form will be sent out to you as a reminder approximately four months prior to your annual renewal.
But there's an anomaly there ... "approximately every three years" coupled with "prior to your annual renewal".

Maybe it is based on individual councils but you would think it would be set for all by the electoral commission . I have always found my local authority in uk excellent re overseas voting, we always get prompt reminders and our voting forms to date have always arrived with good time to complete and return them.

Yes - New Forest District Council

The 15 year limit on voting rights for British citizens living overseas has been removed, and the registration period for these voters has been extended from one year to three. This means that overseas voters will only need to register to vote every three years.

i have just checked my emails again re as you mention the anomaly. Oddly the registration as absent overseas voter is annually and registration as postal voter is every 3 years . Again you would think the registration for each would match but they dont .
