No. This thread is only for being miserable and having a go.:frown:
The AVE to nowhere. Spain is continuing it's plan to extend the AVE network to Badajoz which will cost minimum €4,7000 million. The original plan was for the line to go to Lisbon but Portugal has pulled out, it's too expensive, it can't afford it. (Spain can?). So the line will serve just two towns Cáceres and Badajoz, total populations add up to 250,000 inhabitants. Spain has so far only spent 7% of the total budget, so many think it would be prudent to cut the losses and abandon the project as it's obvious it's going to lose crazy money. But no, they plan to lose even more obscene amounts of public money, and although the finishing date was supposed to be this year, it's now some undeclared date in the far distant future. I think the AVE bit must have come from avestruz!;) Head in the sand. |

The AVE to nowhere? Just a little about the new Barcelona to Figueres line which opened up yesterday
http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/p...-figueres.html As well as catering for long-distance journeys, seats on the Class 103 trainsets will be made available for local journeys between Barcelona, Girona and Figueres, branded as Avant services and offering discounts for regular travellers by means of new multi-journey fares. RENFE says that the Barcelona – Figueres corridor is one of the busiest on the Spanish rail network, currently used by 2⋅5 million passengers a year, and it is hoped that the new high speed services will grow this figure by 40% or 1 million passengers a year. http://ave-renfe.edreams.es/ave-barc...celona-madrid/ No doubt the knockers will call this a failed line  |

Little short of criminal negligence under present circumstances with so many people not even able to feed themselves, let alone afford a ride on Stevies vanity train. At least a little common sense prevails in Portugal. |

http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/p...-figueres.html Oh, and guess how many tickets were already sold by the first day of operations? 7,500. http://ave-renfe.edreams.es/ave-barc...celona-madrid/ No doubt the knockers will call this a failed line  The first day of operation of the London Underground was 150 years ago today, it carried 40,000 passengers that day on a line with only seven stations |

Pathetic.
The first day of operation of the London Underground was 150 years ago today, it carried 40,000 passengers that day on a line with only seven stations Madrid metro carries 634 million a year - but it'd be foolish to compare with a train network. Comparing oranges and potatoes methinks |

The anniversary was mentioned in #359. Looking forward to seeing clips of steam trains passing through Baker Street.
