I would feel like a criminal if I tried to put anyone off from living in a villa with a pool in Javea. And the driving times could be achieved, but you would need empty roads and a Maserati.

With respect you are looking at things through those rose coloured things. It is not sweetness and light here and indeed raining today.
Simply because life in the UK is difficult does not mean that it is perfection here it is not. Walking under the palm trees and along the Med yes but beyond that facade difficulties. At least that is our experience.

Please I do not wish to disagree but someone's knowledge of geography needs a bit of attention. We go to Denia to the hospital and that takes us 25 minutes and then via the coast road from here to Calpe and thus to Benissa about 30 minutes.
Back to the point your header says Javea you now move the sat nav.
I think I have added as much as I am able so wish you well.

I am not trying to be difficult I with others are trying to give you some basic support in your decision making process.
But it is for you. Before I close down on this subject and never to return my sage like advice be it France or Spain is to rent rent and rent and keep a house near Bournemouth. If it was me I would prefer to live in Ringwood Fordingbridge Sixpenny Handle or the Cathedral Close in Salisbury or further afield Chichester.

Personally, I can't think why the number of immigrants in the UK or Spain would affect my quality of life.

Of course, all the immigrants you worry about coming to the UK will have exactly the same rights to move to Spain

DeePaul I am new on the block and do indeed know people here who have had more than 30 years living here. But of course the stress should be applied to 30 years when life was so much more easier and when I am informed there were no roundabouts.
For balance if you walk down Javea Park which I do most weeks for the bank there are people here who say they would never go home. Whether that is bravado or simply put they cannot go home is totally another thing. Of course the alternative applies they might love it here.
My time here is of very short duration say some six months so please do not rely upon my interpretation of Javea/Spain.
However I came full of enthusiasm for a new life and for a number of reasons it did not work out. We are fortunate if that is indeed the word we have a presence both in France and the UK.
I strongly recommend to you that you keep a bolt hole even if an apartment in Boscombe.
People here tend to augment (at least that is my experience) with part time jobs and payable in cash. Someone openly informed me yesterday that he charges 10 euros an hour.
My global viewpoint is that Spain has more problems that France despite Hollande but of course it is such a long time since I lived in the UK that I cannot possible comment UK wise.
But I would say be careful keep a presence in the UK keep £ in the UK and do not burn all of your boats.
I admit to breaking a promise that I would not comment further on this posting. Sorry but thought a final comment might concentrate one's thinking.
If I had one word to use it would be research it is difficult here.

Well, you did ask.
I got talking to a an elderly Spanish widow yesterday, whose two sons, in their forties, ran businesses in Spain for many years, successfully until the recession.
Both businesses have now closed and this very perceptive lady explained that the businesses closed because so many expats have returned home. We were sitting outside a Spanish cafe and she looked round and said, 'Where have all the English children gone, there used to be hundreds of them.'
I hadn't noticed, but she was right. A lot of English pensioners are still hanging on because Spain is such a beautiful country to live in, but the younger ones, the ones with children, have largely gone home.
Still, having said that, the villa in Javea sounds great, I had two wonderful years up that way.
