In the UK they are now building tower blocks in back gardens, and knock down perfectly good family houses to build pokey flats with tarmaced parking spaces.

My point exactly casa del sol, I was referring to the UK but didn't make myself clear, sorry. ;) I am glad I am not the only one that has noticed though!

That makes it alright then.

I think that you will find that there will end up being less things to hate on this thread than the other one and maybe that was the point in the first place.

Not knocking Spain to be obnoxious but being realistic and honest enough to point out that it is not utopia and has problems like any other country.

Hmmm!

Whinging foreigners who forget whose country they're in?

Imagine if a group of Pakistanis listed on a forum: "Things we hate about Britain".

What would your response be?

Where would the problem be exactly if a group of Pakistani's started a forum on things they hated about living in Britian?

Do you think they are forgetting whose country they are in?

I didn't say it would be a problem, I asked what would the response be from British people reading it. I'd hardly be suprised if there was such a thing - but I know what my reaction would be.

Just how tolerant should we be if, for example, someone comes over to your country and then starts slagging it off?

If I was Spanish and came across this thread I'd think "Well, if you don't like my country, p!$$ off back to your own".

That's the point I'm making.

Totally agree with you there derbyflan, we have to realise WE are the VISITORS and IMMIGRANTS here, and should take you new country for what it is, yes there are flaws, such as the beaurocracy, but it's what the country is. We should NOT expect the country to change as the many immigrants to the UK have done, and they seem to be suceeding, Sharia law courts being set up etc.

I know where you’re coming from. There are far too many people who move to a place and can’t stop talking about how much they hate it - how everything that is different is somehow bad and not the way to do things.

If there was a Pakistani forum where people talked of the things they hated about living in Britain, and they talked about the crap weather, bland food and bad dressers, I’d find it hard to take offence. I’d find it hard to disagree. In the same way, I think any Spanish people reading this forum would be hard pressed to take offence from it. What do you think their reaction would be, “You don’t like the way we park. How dare you, leave my country at once!”.

We live here, we form part of the community and as such can vote, spend our money where we wish and express positive and negative opinions. I think that's a good thing.

I started this with my own pet hates and this would stand in any country that had these conditions and incidently my neighbours (100% Valenciano)moan about these things to.

I think the Pakistanis do have forums where they say more than hate the UK, they post that they want to blow us up!

Not much I hate about Spain only their treatment of animals and the red tape. There seems to be a lot more around than when I moved here ten years ago. All those ugly apartment blocks they are putting up. Don't like it as much as I used to.

true..............but surely we should accept tradition...............for instance siesta

some of our english neighbours want to change the 'quiet time/no noise' siesta rule that our owners' committee has voted upon

Believe in keeping traditions too. Siesta is adhered to in our town quite strictly and anyone attempting to do any hammering etc get told off, especially by the older people.

thing is it states no swimming, too, but it is generally accepted that as long as you are just swimming quietly that is fine

unfortunately one english neighbour has decided that this applies to the kids but not her & had a right go at Jess & silverchick's boy yesterday.............they were virtually silent, just swimming up & down the pool...........

she was in the pool herself........

Typical, there is always one that will spoil it for all. The 'Do not do as I do but do as I say' types are so stupid that they seem to not notice that they are doing exactly what they are complaining about with others. Was she totally oblivious to being wet?
