I'm a luddite I guess. Part of it is that I recognise I am being stranded at the high tide mark while the wave of technology retreats from me.
I choose to not run after it. Why should I? I'm retired, I have no need for high tech wizzy stuff, so see no need to run to try and keep up with a technology I have little or no use for.
I don't have the time to keep up with twitter and facebook, because I have other important things to do like sitting in the sun and doing the weeding.
I listen to people who talk about twitter, and I have only one word for it.
Why?
Face book? There was a lovely cartoon on the cover of El Jueves. The police had tied the suspect to a chair, and he was screaming 'I won't tell you anything!' The copper is looking at a computer screen saying ' You don't have to. It's all here on face book.'
Says it all really.

Once again try reading the post.
My reference was to the security settings.

I hear a lot of stories with people putting data up on FB that simply makes my blood run cold. Sometimes people are just an RCH away from putting their bank details and card number on there.

Yeah but regardless of the security settings, if you don't provide information you stand no chance of falling foul of poor security settings...

A couple of my mates have started "open groups" stating they had lost their phone and asking for everyone elses phone number, in fact if you do a search on Facebook for "Lost my phone" you will be shocked at how many results come up, hell I could easily get a few hundred phone numbers of COMPLETE strangers. These idiots deserve everything they get, screw em!

A few have been caught out by stuff they have put on facebook. A few benefit cheats and in a murder case last week it was mentioned.
I got on it by default. Kept getting mail from someone I knew saying have a look at my photos on facebook. After the third one I thought I best look out of politeness and didn't know by signing up I got a page
Never put anything on it but I do get messages to add friends etc. When I read what some of my friends are posting I feel as if I don't know them
Stuff like the pasta they just cooked, cats been sick etc
Some of the silliest comments such as bought steak for dinner and about 40 people click "like"....crazy

I think Facebook is great,it's a social networking site, and with the right like minded friends it's alot of fun. My settings are high,I don't get any hassle.
I don't see much difference to here really,I log on to FB and see comments and thoughts about subjects, just as I log on here and see the same?

What IS the difference?

Because I run a commercial site, I succumbed and joined Facebook, thus advertising my site with as little personal data as possible. However, one of my personal contacts is a celebrity and I naturally added him to my friends list.
When I logged on a few days later, I got thousands of ‘friends’ requests, including more celebrities. Even scrolling down the list is impossible, it goes on and on and on.
I don’t know what to do about it, I am trying to sell some things on a commercial basis, but I’m overwhelmed by the FB response.

Exactly!!! why would you put personal details on there in the first place? My education details list me as going to Hogwarts school of witchcraft.
