I noticed ( you can help but do so) the red writing inviting members to Facebook and Twitter. Does anyone else get annoyed by the continual plugging of these places ? everything seems to want to be linked to it.
BAR ME
I am not an member and will not join these things and get very annoyed at everyone thinking I should or that of course you must be on them !!!!!!
NO I am NOT and NO I will not. I am not interested in telling everybody everything about me nor am I interested in finding out about when somebody went to pub got rat assed went to toilet nor in their offsprings antics. I don't want to do endless quizzes nor see who has
why would I ? I also don't want to advertise pics of my children, grand children or anything on sites either.
It has become like soaps, people can't understand why I am NOT watching them, or don't know anything about them.. Reason being I am NOT interested in them very simple really.
Rant over :-) have a lovely Dia de Andalucia it is another cracker here

I think they're a great idea myself.
They help keep most of the muppets away from the more interesting internet forums.

Agree with you 100%. Do not like those sites, I am a very private person so would not contribute to them. Hate soaps and reality shows.

I'm on facebook, but only because my daughter asked me to. Since then she's left it as she feels the same as you now ... I suppose I ought to de register really

Beyond me why ppl make their personal and private affairs an open book for the whole world and his wife, while at the same time the companies running the sites are laughing all the way to the bank.
I agree with you about the crap reality shows and soaps, though I might have to make an exception for Beni if anyone considers it a soap rather than a comedy.

FB has its disadvantages I'm sure, but the privacy settings are, in my opinion, 2nd to none and give you absolute control over who sees what.

So you are not on Facebook, you don't like it, but because you watch the news and read the papers you know how it works... I have only what I chose to put on there, same as everyone else I know, I only allow people who know my friends to see a very small amount of pictures I chose to be semi public and thanks to certain members on this site all they will ever see is filth and perversion and to be honest if people are falling prey to some strange money grabbing monsters who stalk Facebook then good.... I mean seriously, the ability is there to protect your personal details and if you chose to be a twat and put all sorts of crap on there then if we are all honest all we have lost is another ASDA checkout gumby, we haven't lost a cure for cancer here!

Yes, I'm on it for the same reason, my son suggested I join to follow him when he is doing triathlons, Ironman events all over Europe. But I never contribute anything. Plus I'm "billy no mates"on there , very few friends!
How can you have thousands of friends, it's a nonsense.

It's only an open book for the whole world and his wife if you choose to make it so. You can restrict anything you publish to just those people you wish to see it.
FB has its disadvantages I'm sure, but the privacy settings are, in my opinion, 2nd to none and give you absolute control over who sees what.

You say that you are only an open book if you choose to be - not so - you are an open book UNLESS you take action. The privacy options should all should all be set "On" the with user obliged to turn them off as appropriate.
As far as I can see well over 90% of users have made no attempt to restrict their account.

Its like the new "security" measures that have been taken, to fully "activate" your security details you have to provide a mobile phone number... well MOST people realise that giving that number does not increase your security and its ludicrous to suggest it does, but it doesn't stop people happily handing over their phone number to a complete stranger... they are the same people who "click" on those emails from their "banks" good riddance to them.

I use both Twitter and Facebook, but have to admit I'm not so keen on Facebook - it tries to do too much.
I read a very amusing quote somewhere which went something like this - " Facebook is where you learn to hate people you already know, Twitter is the place to hate total strangers"

I do not recall mentioning whether or not I was on face book.

I am fully aware of the security settings, though I don't necessarily consider them as 100% secure.
The point I was making was that I don't understand the mentality of those who do not realize the possible consequences of making much of their private affairs an open book.

Er, there you go again jumping to conclusions, or failing to read what my post actually says.
