Are there any restrictions on building hours/days?
About two months ago the house next to us was sold to a French family, who are not here at the moment incidentally! Since this time extensive building/alterations have been carrying on including the construction of a swimming pool and the builders have been here Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm.
Today for the first time work has continued into Sunday and as of the time of this posting (8.15) is still carrying on. In addition to the normal banging there has been extensive use of a jack-hammer which is very noisy making sitting outside impossible.
So my question is, are there any restrictions on the hours/days such work and noise can be carried out?
Thanks.

Where we are, construction work is not permitted on a Sunday. Might vary(?) so ask at your town hall. You might want to check if they have permission to build.
If building work is out of hours or no planning, complain at Police local station and they will take action .

Biffta-I feel your pain!
We have endured our neighbours building works for several years, angle grinding, drill hammering, dust, noise etc. Then another neighbour started what appears to be a long series of" improvements" What could have been done in a matter of weeks by a building firm, is laboriously carried out by a friend and neighbour, to save money, and goes on at all hours, so a peaceful afternoon sitting outside is marred.
I asked a representative of the council about restrictions and she said work can be done on any day, and at any time of the year! Sorry!

When we were renovating our house we were told that we should not make a noise during siesta time or after 7 pm or on Sundays but I think that this was courtesy not law. We adhered to this as we were the only foreigners in the town and did not want to upset anyone but this was also adhered to by any tradespeople that we employed so maybe it is not only a courtesy. Saying that all of the tradespeople were from our town so it could be a town thing.

Thanks for the replies. Looking on the positive side I suppose the more the work continues with such intensity, the quicker it will be completed.
The ironic thing is that when we first spoke to them when they were on a short visit (and before the noise started!) I gave them a bottle of wine as a welcome.
Thing we're due a case now!

Check you council web site, they may have details of what they find acceptable on there, from memory ours is no works with power tools on a Sunday or Holidays and no petrol powered tools on Saturday afternoon as well as Sunday and Holidays, they also say no works what so ever in August, we are on the coast so this may reflect what they see as a need to keep the noise down

Why do people buy places on an urbanisation, and then extend and change them out of all recognition, putting neighbours through years of dust, noise and misery, while they" improve " their dwelling?
If they want a castle then buy one, preferably in the campo!

When my wife and I look around we see lots of lovely houses for sale with pools and gardens which would seem ideal for their needs.
Can't really understand it and can only assume they got it cheap as the previous owner was desperate to sell.
