Default Testing potable water quality

I remember hearing many years ago that it was possible to get potable water tested by taking it into the local farmacia. Would that be a simple kit type test or is it sent off to a lab for testing?
Many people in our village have been ill for the past 4 months with similar symptoms since the water supply went over to a private company. Blood tests etc have come back negative but now the water company are planning on emptying and cleaning the deposit which may be just a coincidence but I don't trust them and would like an independent assessment of the water quality.
If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated

I was quoted 65 euros by a farmacia to confirm whether potable or not , they said it would also show mineral content , I think there was a more in depth test for more money , I did not bother as you should test at least every six months so I buy bottled for drinking.

Hmmm, 65 is a figure that is a bit high for a clear test but a bargain if it finds a problem. Maybe if I could share the cost but then most here do as you and drink bottled now, including myself.
However that just relieves the water company of any responsibility.
Thanks for the info,much appreciated.

I guess you pay for your water so the consumer office may help with your suspicions , I only enquired as I have a private supply so if mine is bad it`s my problem

http://www.acornwater.com/showprod.php?id=48 give a price of €85 but that involves sending sample to them for analaysis so you could say you have lost control\chain of evidence.

I cant see a report in English (Irish) from Ireland being accepted by any authority here ,better to use a Spanish farmacist.

Good suggestion, thanks.

Dave n Dee,
Not sure how but I missed your reply.
It seems from the list of just 10 things that it is not a very thorough test.
They don't mention many of the things I have read can be silent pollutants but I may have missed something. Thankyou for the info, it all helps.

I see, that explains it. Thought I was going do la la.
Went to local farmacia who said they don't do it any more due to lack of demand
SINAC is the local authority here but when I checked on their site the data for my village hadn't been updated and no data had ever been submitted as to the water quality........Spain, make it up as you go along, manana manana siempre.
