ditto ditto ditto
when we originally moved over (5 years in Jan) it was so cold inside we were sleeping in our clothes
our son was in his clothes in bed in a sleeping bag with a duvet on top
we had a log fire but these old villas dont seem to contain the heat so give me carpets and central heating in Winter anyway
saying that we were on the beach on boxing day playing volleyball that same year - not sun bathing weather but very mild

The nice days more than make up for the cold nights.
Plus the longer days here, the earliest it gets dark in Valencia is abot 6pm in mid December.
Last winter the temperature in Valencia didn't drop to freezing once. The lowest overnight temperature was 1c on Jan 24. And on January 19 the daytime temperature reached 23c.

But in the UK you need the heating on all day in the winter. Here you don't need to put it on 'til about five in the evening.

Yes we have thought of doing that, turning it into a long holiday through the French canals. It's a 7M Westerly Pageant. We looked into marina costs during our last visit (March last year) and the money asked was the same as the UK. I have my own mooring on the Hamble River @ £300 p/a. This I can afford on my pension. She is ashore now for winter maintenance:curse:as am thinking of selling her
but if I could take you up on your kind offer maybe I won't be selling?

I dont find Javea that cold, pretty mild given the proximity to the sea. The off shore storms that pound us remind me of living on the west coast of Scotland. Ive been here for several years and still wear shorts on all but the wildest weather days, so.....
And I lived in Florida for 30 yrs, so you would think I would find it cold. However, Florida can get pretty cold too...Ive seen 18F there and upper 20F temps are not that uncommon in Central Florida in midwinter.
Some insulation in Spanish homes would be a good thing, for both summer and winter temps. I see there is none in our apartment building when I have checked out the attic space in our attico, and this place is only 1 year old. Cripes.....

The city area. I notice on the Canal 9 news every morning, that whilst it's staying above freezing here, inland, places like Utiel and Requena it's down to -6 overnight. We've never had snow in the four years we've been here, although in Feb 2005 we had a severe frost that killed some of our plants.

we still have orchids growing nicely in pots in the garden here, but we have had to put an extra blanket on the bed.
