Default Temperatures

I am heading for Javea in January with my caravan to get away from the cold in the UK . But reading loads of the posts recently it seems to get just as cold in Spain as here in the UK .

What would you prefer a house in the UK or a caravan in Spain

Caravan in Spain no question.
My recollection of last year (I'm not so far from Javea) was that it was nice during the day, but cold at night, but Nothing like the UK. We didn't have a frost but we had the heating on in Jan & Feb. We've had in going at night now on and off for about 3 weeks, but during the day not necessary at all, been noce and sunny mostly

Cold nights - living in a tin can.

I would stay in the UK with carpets, central heating and warm furnishings.

In Feb 2005 we had snow in Costa Blanca North.

Everything stopped on the A7 motorway and the 334 ......everything came to a halt for about 4 days. Shops stayed closed as well as supermarkets. Thankfully we had alot of bottled water and tinned food.

The Spaniards were packing their trunks with snow to take home and show their families.....and I am NOT joking

In February 2003 I stayed in Orba with my family, exploring the area. The weather was cold and miserable but we had warm clothing as we knew that Spain can be as cold as the UK in the winter.

As it was cold we decided to drive up into the mountains from Pego. The further up we got, the colder it got, until it finally snowed. We were miles from nowhere and came across a small dark bar full of old Spanish men playing cards around a fire. So we had a coffee, warmed up and drove back down the mountain.

Back in Pego in a snow covered car, we were the star of the show with everyone pointing and staring in amazement.

Ever been in the Black Forest and woken by a thumping on the roof.

(Relates to an old urban myth)

Hi Eric,
I've been following your posts as we were thinking of doing the same but the house did not sell.
As we haven't a van we would have to buy one AND a tow car, big money, so we looked at motorhomes again big money, after doing some sums and looking at 3 month trip we thought it would be warmer and cheaper to rent than buying a van or motor home, taking in all costs, unless you can wild camp. Spain gets cold at night sometimes colder than the UK and even colder
than Sweden where my son lives. I would not belive this till I started to check out the BBC weather site.
Maybe you could consider looking to base yourself further south?
J.

Quick cut and paste:

There are many variations of this story. From a crazed midget to an escaped mental patient. Usually ends with the person in the car hearing a banging noise on the roof, then hearing a shot, then a police hailer to the person to get out of the car and not look back which of course they do, only to see the midget/ mental patient banging the head of their partner on the roof!!

All complete tosh but highly entertaining round a campfire or on halloween.

Yes but the myth is set in the Black Forest and when I stayed in a caravan in the New Forest as a teenager, some lads in a neighbouring tent thought it would be a good idea to bang on the roof and scare the living daylights out of me and a group of girlfriends - having told us the myth only hours earlier.

Guess it was revenge for not letting them shack up with us. Oh to be young ...

Have you considered bringing you boat over jimmbo? Friends of ours have theirs moored at Guadamar. They don't live on it, they have a house inland, but stay there for a few nights occasionally. I could find out the mooring costs if you are interested.
