Default Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)

I am being asked by HSBC for a TIN number for my mum who is 95 years old. She came to live with me here in Seville about 10 years ago but as she is only receiving her UK pension I only have a Health Card for her not a Social Security one. How do I get a TIN number for her? I have a Social Security number as I am registered to pay tax here, is that the same as a TIN number? Thanks in advance.

She really should be submitting her own tax returns in Spain (by law).

So, why not ask a gestor to help and then you won't need a TIN.

The TIN is the same as the NIE .Number on resident's card. Presumably if she has lived here 10 years she has a NIE

That's great thanks, LA. I've filled in the form again and put her NIE number on.

We still need a TIN, snikpoh. HSBC are asking for it. But now I know to put her NIE number.

Thanks again. My search didn't come up with that.

I'm still going to do our annual tax returns retrospectively but now I know about the NIE number being what HSBC need it isn't so urgent.

Liz
