Yeah, I think the hire companies aren`t too worried, but you might get a Guardia that knows about it. :-))

To be honest (or, dishonest, I suppose), you've got a taxi journey of around 80 Euros, which is expensive, especially if it has to be doubled for the return journey; and there are alternatives. I don't know your area very well, but the free newspapers covering the Costa Blanca still have 'illegal' taxi numbers, although it would be far better to employ a local and recommended one for your area. Can't you phone a neighbour to give you a safe number?

hi thanks for posts, i am thinking of getting a taxi and then finding a cheaper alternative on the return trip. we would phone a neigbour but have lost the number. a local english bar {las brisas} had numbers on the notice board but we have lost these numbers too. ive looked on the net for the bars phone number but with no success.

exactly the opposite, if you would of been in the car the last time i drove on the opposite side of the road you wouldn't be so quick to talk and iv'e been warned about spanish taxi drivers and there crooked ways in which pray on nieve foreigners like me. who can you trust when going to these places. i posted on here for advice from people with local knowledge and not sarcastic comments. with that in mind THANK YOU EVRYONE ELSE!!!:thumbsup:

honestly, it's not the spanish ones you need to worry about - at least they are legal & insured - that's why they cost more

it's the cowboy brits with no insurance to take paying passengers who you should be concerned about - that's why they are cheap

(there are probably cowboy germans, dutch, french too - but you sound like you'd be happier with a brit)

Correct don´t trust Spanish taxi drivers they will rip you off given half a chance.
Ignore the cocky plonker on here aswell. He likes to cut peoples heads off to make himself look big.

If you are referring to me, do you also think it is good to risk your family to save a couple of €`s ?
Do you do airport runs yourself ?

Well it´s the manner of your replies and not just this one. We all have many years of experience ; )

1) What do you classify as the greatest risk?
2) Very rarely.
3) Not always. (if you are going to a small town it may or may not appear on a list)

1, Well luvvy, the greatest risk is the Brit with his un-licenced, un-insured, probably unroadworthy car. Which may also be prone to having it`s tyres slashed or getting the poo poo kicked out of it and sometimes even set alight by the taxi drivers. :eek: :wub:

2, If you take money from the passengers you will be breaking the law. :eek: :wub:

3, All those nasty taxi drivers that will rip you off as soon as look at you cos you are a foreigner, happen to carry a list of their fares in the cab on a sheet of card covered in a lovely plastic and if you ask them they will show you. :thumbsup: :wub:

Apart from the 3rd point. Yes they carry a plastic sheet with all the tariiffs on. However, if you are doing a longer run, the town may not appear on the list and the driver could theoretically overcharge.

There are still rip-off taxis around. Spanish friends from Madrid been ripped off or perhaps "overcharged" would be better.
In Sevilla or Madrid,going the long route is not unusual. I´ve heard countless stories.
