Default Strikes in Spain

Is this a good Forum to be pre-warned of strikes (especially Airport) in Spain, or can anyone recommend where I can get information if necessary. Thanks.

I do but I am visiting Europe in a few months time, including a trip to Spain to visit friends, but am on a very tight schedule and if I know about any strikes planned (and living in Greece it is a way of life here!!) I can always change flights - and the earlier I know the better.

Surely you need to follow a newspaper then, rather than a talkboard, to know about possible strike action? I understand El Pais has an English edition.
I suppose you could also search for "Spain strikes" on Twitter...

We have a couple of excellent websites in Greece that announce strikes, sometimes well in advance, so I wondered if there was anything similar in Spain. I can remember when there were almost constant strikes (Air Traffic Controllers in particular) quite a long time back in Spain, thankfully those days appear to be past, and I really just want to keep a check on the news so I can change my travel plans if necessary, as I am visiting 3 countries - and after getting caught up in the volcanic ash saga in 2010 don't want to spend another holiday wondering where/when/if I am getting to where I want to go. I will try El Pais on the Internet.

Not so long back, only one month ago.

It certainly puts you off travelling doesn't it? Oh well, fingers crossed for my European holiday, and thanks for all the advice.

The last strike was not announced, if fact they did not even call it a strike! It was an illegal stoppage of work. Some of the controllers have been taken to court and charged with something just below treason. I do not think the British have this in their law.
To strike here in Spain there has to be some notice, I would keep watching the Spanish newspapers for announcements.

Hi, if one of the other countries is France, you won't know about any strikes until several days beforehand. It's part of the French way of life and I've been caught out many a time. Whenever I hear of "days of action", I post on the France forum....

Thankfully NOT France on the itinerary!!! I think that is one country that can possible match Greece for strikes, but we generally get a bit of warning. Fingers crossed for every traveller in Europe this spring and summer.

Katy, there is talk of another general strike, this time over changes to pension law, but so far I'm not aware of any suggested dates, and govt & unions are still in talks.

The last one didn't get massive support, but in any case there'd be plenty of warning and a guaranteed minimum level of services.

Thanks. I'll keep my eyes open for the next couple of months. It seems pretty general in Europe at present doesn't it, but I think people must move with the times and strikes only hurt other workers in one way or another, as opposed to the Governments they are striking against.

Just heard:
The hospitality staff (ie hotel workers) of Madrid could strike from 19 to 21 February, coinciding with the International Tourism Fair (FITUR).
It seems that the unions are angry at just about everything and that the workers are suffering form no work right thorough to annaceptable working terms which have been imposed.
we shall see if this spreads to other parts of Spain and what impact if any it will have.
The employers are holding a meeting before the proposed strike to ensure that disruption is minimised.
Do not forget this is a COULD and not firm fixture.
