Strictly come dancing

Anyone else think it's a total farce this year. The worst dancer has now survived 3 weeks, and much better dancers have gone out. Kate Garroway is by far the worse dancer, she has no grace, no sense of rythm or balance, yet the viewers keep saving her. The judges on Saturday, and yes, of course the Sunday programme is recorded on Saturday, were astounded with the result. I think the major problem is that the BBC lets people start voting by phone for NEXT weeks programme on the Sunday well BEFORE they know how well the dancer does. I think voting should only be on the Saturday, between the end of the first show and when the results show is recorded.

Do you think it fair that some of the contestants on there already have dancing experience, whilst the others don't?

None have done the type of dancing required on there. So they do start from equal, look at the last two winners, cricketers who had never danced before. I agree that people like Alesha danced on stage, but that wasn't ever the type of dancing that is required on this type of programme.

Nah ... sorry .... Gabby is an ex gymnast which involved dance on the gym floor. Alesha danced on stage ........The woman you are talking about is a TV presenter isn't she, although I may be wrong. Theres a huge difference, as they were both dance trained, and it may not be the same kind that is required in come dancing but it does give them a head start over someone who has never done it before.

But the poise helps, look at the ex gymnast Gabbie compared to Willie Thorne. ;-))

Re: Strictly come dancing

I think it is a little unfair of some having dance experience, but others in the past with no previous experience have come through and improved vastly, sadly that is not what kate has done. She got a bad start with her injury but i think it stands out pretty well that she is going to struggle!!
I should think deep down she feels a bit miffed about it all too, she knows she has kept someone who good continue through for a long time and who knows maybe have won it out of the competition and obviously realises that she should not be there.
I love the show, put myself through dance classes two nights of the week doing several classes of latin, salsa and ballroom and for myself would obviously like to see someone who dances well win the show, not someone who has got there for the entertainment value. It is hard to decide the best way to make sure of this, but it has proved that when that sort of decision crops up there should be some sort of contingency plan, don't know what, but it just isn't fair. Sorry guys for the waffle but I like to see dancing done properly and well, I feel for Kate and everyone likes to see the great improvements everyone makes, but the BEEB needs to get their strategy sorted!!
Oooh hope that hasn't gone on too much.

Whenever the public are asked to vote for contestants, it's inevitable that personality will play a big part in who they vote for.

The British love the underdog and anyone who doesn't take themselves too seriously!

Love the program, but the great british public just vote for their favorite, ie soap star, tv presenter, nothing to do with how they dance. Feel sorry for Kate, she must feel awful knowing that she is being kept in by her fans when she is hopeless at dancing, it is embarrassing to watch her.

Dom Littlewood voted off.. He did have a hissy fit before!

I am a bit scary watchy kind of stuff!

When he was having the last dance, he was a bit hands on, and she was not happy! Did anybody notice?

Yes, I thought she looked very uncomfortable till they were rescued by the rest of the mob.

I watched this with friends for the first time yesterday, Penny Lancaster doing the salsa made me feel worn out just watching! The effort she put into it :p Interesting viewing :)

penny made me feel quite sick, she just didn't have any change of pace. Didn't seem to go with the music, all the spins and twirls are great but timing is soooo important,I thought Johns salsa was brill for a big guy.
Kate really must go this week.

YES I agree and it was great watching it with friends. We could all take on the parts of the judges. I usually agree with Len (the voice of reason)
We were real addicts in England and we are miffed that we cant watch BBC2's It takes two with Claudia Winkleman.
I would really love to dance with Anton!! I think Aleysha (sic) should win and Kelly or Kenny or Letitia go. (preferably all 3)

Well I like Letisha, I think she is doing very well, Kenny and Kate havent got a clue and John needs to get his posture sorted out. Penny can only do ballroom all of her latin has been rubbish so she is another one that can go. Will be interesting to see what happens tonight!!!

Re: Strictly come dancing

Aren't people cruel ?? I bet there are quite a few people who could be compared to one of the Muppets. Letitia is nothing like Miss Piggy.. that accolade was taken by a certain person who was once on Big Brother. As to Kenny.. well yes he may not be Nureyev but he is trying and was great this week...and it gives hope to many guys who would like to dance but feel inhibited about it. More than anything the programme encourages people to go out and dance...a great form of exercise and therapy. For my money it was a shame that Stephanie Beecham went so soon..style,eccentricity and pure class...the programme would have been greatly enhanced by having her around for a few more weeks..

Yes I too was sorry to see stephanie Beecham go. It is nice for one or two slightly older contestants to stay the course a bit.

:p I am sure you are right about the comparisons, but then the comment wasn't written to be cruel, as for the big brother accolade, never seen it so wouldn't have known that, terribly sorry, should check my facts in future.
No one is passing judgement on here just personal opinions and most have a sense of humour. I have full admiration for all the dancers, and anyone who takes it up, I know from experience that it is good fun, good exercise, extremally frustrating,, difficult and time consuming, but I for one wouldn't give it up.
I was very sorry to see penny go out, I prefer fro ballroom to her latin as others have said , but the master of the latin this week was definately John, I shall be looking at the men at my salsa club this week to see if they can emulate his hips!!
Luv to all
Eve

Re: Strictly come dancing

The voting by the public is a FARCE, the lines are open for people to VOTE FOR THEIR FAVOURITE CELEBRITY now for next week. Tney should only be alloed to vote AFTER the dancing has ended, and should be told to vote on dancing ability,. not on the fact that they like Eastenders, or GMTV. The judges said last night that for the second time there were two couples in the dance off who should never have been there, and the worst dancers got saved because the public like them or sympathise with them. Voting should start after the dancing and finish with the result show which is recorded on Saturday night in any case, but that would mean less money for Children in Need, so I doubt that the BBC will ever do it.
