Reading about strawberries prompted me to ask. What is the best way to keep strawberries (purchased at a spanish market) fresh for 4 days before using them. Tried to keep them in the fridge as well as in a cool room, they dont seem to last for more than a couple of days before becoming "furry"!! Any advice/tips to help preserve them in prestine condition would be appreciated.

I always get mine from the market, Sat they were 3€ for 2 kl box, I am afraid they dont last 4 days in our house, but I know what you mean.
They grow in the sunshine, so I think cooling them is a wrong move ?

Thanks a lot to your all for your replies, and for the URL with tasty recipes, sound oh so yummy!

Normally strawberries wouldnt last a day in our home either, but as it is a long bank holiday next week, and we have people over on Friday, I was going to make a strawberry cheese cake. I can only buy them on Tuesday, as the supermakets will be closed Thursday as well as Friday in our area, and Wednesday all the shops will be packed.

I think I will give it go, and keep them in a cool temperature (not the fridge) till I need them, will make sure I have an alternative fruit just in case they go off. I will check them daily and try one or two to make sure they are OK!

---

Did you have a lot of rain in your areas? We have had buckets here since yesterday evening! and it is still raining.....good for the trees and plants so not complaining at all and it has topped up the pool too!
