Strange noise in the pile of wood !!!!!
Keep hearing strange tapping sounds every now and again from the pile of wood in the alcove for the woodburning fire :scared:
I'm scared to pull the wood out and look......
Has this happened to anyone else ? Any ideas what it could be ?
The alcove is in our lounge/diner...under the stairs.....!!!!! Help.......

We were advised not to store logs inside the house but to bring them in from the woodshed as we needed them on a daily basis.
I think you need to move the logs to find out what is in there and get rid of it!

Beachcomber is right. Firewood can contain all sorts of critters which can then spread to your furniture, beams etc and start to do untold damage. The tapping could be Longhorn Beetle - when they get nice and cosy and warm and moist they start to become active and gorge themselves on the wood - next stop your house. Take the wood outside!

Maybe a little mouse? How laud is the noise? It could be a rat instead..

but it could be a MAD AXE MURDERER sharpening his axe waiting for his moment, looking at you through the pile of wood with his one eye,
and unwashed hair, he watch's your every move !!

Actually I have just had another thought, if you don't post the reason of the noise when you move the wood, or if we never hear from you again,then I must have been right all along !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You bunch of nutters !!!! those posts made me chuckle !
Though I just hope "The Thing" is very ickle .......
Problem we have, there's no place for the wood to go outside and keep dry !
We will have to buy a shed......altho only place is on the roof terrace, hubby better get flexing those muscles....carrying the wood down two flights of stairs every night.
Will let you know what it is......thats if its not a Mad Axe man :scared:
