see, someone who is so secure in themselves they can even forget their Saint's Day - obviously not Spanish, who print all 365 on their calendars each year

Unless you haven't noticed - the English here are being quite reserved about it, as they are about most things. We don't need a "day" to celebrate, to get pissed out of our minds, we do that Every day, don't need a Saint.
Well the patron saint of Scotland isn't St. Andrew it's actually someone called Rabbi Burns who wrote incomprehensible nonsense on Jan 25th.

Like this you mean ?
Where's the romance in you jim ?

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee well, my only Luve
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile

...and how many amongst you have not joined in Auld Lang Syne at the New Year, though it's not all down to Rabbie ?

I thought Scotland didn't have a proper saint - after all St Andrews is a golf course isn't it ??
although some people somewhere seem to think golf is a religion

Anzac Day today.
Time to remember those brave guys from down under who did their bit and quite a bit more besides when the chips were really down.

St Edmund was the patron saint of England until Edward III (1312-1377) took it upon himself to proclaim someone with more bravado to take his place....

Should have left well alone...
