Re: St. George's Day
very strange. I used to be in Holland a lot and their National day was held on their Queens birthday. The country was a riot of orange, a public holiday and lots of events. same as in Ireland, have seen people on the forum wishing happy St. Patricks day and they aren't even Irish...yet to celebrate St. georges day in the UK(and forums) is about as popular as being a Muslim terrorist:blink: BTW some parts of Spain celebrate the day!

celebrating christian and or pagan festivals as we used to are frowned on nowadays as they are not "all inclusive". which is why we are supposed to celebrate yule-tide rather than christmas not that I have ever been invited to a diwahli hoedown. :( |

Should this be a public holiday ?? We must be the only country in the world that does not have a national day. If we don't wave our flag once in a while who will? |

Re: St. George's Day
Judging by last years Olympics, parties in the park, the flag has been reclaimed. Some seems to have been celebrating.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...t-hit-20C.html I think the day should be a public holiday, moved from the may day one. |

Half Greek, half Palestinian, stolen form everyone else and made our own Saint.... couldn't be more English if he tried!

Re: St. George's Day
If we need another bank holiday, better that it's in the Autumn - perhaps Trafalgar Day? We have enough bank holidays as it is at this time of year.
I'm quite proud that England is secure enough in its own identity, that it doesn't need to crow about its patron saint. I prefer Last Night of the Proms, or watching FA Cup Final day - televised around the world! |

Can't believe you said that Stevie. On the other hand we could do as the Spanish do with the Moors and Christians and re-stage the battle each year as a major tourist attraction,....... .....that's supposing of course we can still scrape enough ships together. |
