personally I found NABSS worse than useless, at least for looking for special ed!! tru a search in spanish I put in "colegio de ninos sordos" crap spanish I know but it diod throw up many links for special schools although mainly for the deaf"sordos"! IMO your Spanish would need to be more than excellent and of course Sign language which is widely used is different from BSL being only one handed! also dont know whether a british teaching qualification would carry over there especially if it is in special ed, I am a Learning Disability Nurse and that is not recognised at all. Good luck!

You can not work in a Spanish school with a UK qualification without convalidation of your degree and going through a lot of tests etc. which even Spanish teachers find difficult. You also need to show you are fluent in Spanish.

I don't know if there are special schools for these kids or they are just integrated in normal schools. I remember a blind and a couple of disable girls at my (catholic) school. It looks like most parents with special needs children will rather send them to "normal" schools unless their special needs need to be address by professionals...

Hi

I am also looking for special needs schools near to Moraira.
My neice has autism and I have found some schooling and help here but it is all Spanish only and as my sister-in-law doesnt speak Spanish it could be a problem.
Does anyone know the name of the school in Denia?
Thanks for any help
Nikki

No but you could try emailing Help of Denia, who I am sure will know or signpost you to someone who does.

No, I am afraid there are no special needs schools in Spain, it was a policy about five years ago to incorporate all children with special needs into main stream schools, and most centre were closed down.
I live in Seville and in my experience very few private school offer support classes, infact, there isn't even a teacher's help in the classroom.
The states schools do offer support classes, but you have to fight for it!
I know all this as my son has dyslexia and other learning difficulties, and I have been struggling for years to get help. I have now resorted to flying out evey 6 to 7 weeks to the UK so that he can do the Dore Programme.
If you did decide to come and live in Spain you may be successful in giving private classes. Judith

There are special needs schools around where we live, they come each morning and collect all the students in a special mini bus, as the student gets older they are catered for in the school of adults in the village. I do know they also do care for the more disabled, out side home.
