Default Special Needs Children in Spain

Hi all
Where are special needs kids educated in Spain - do they have there own special schools as they do here - till they shut you down - or are they educated at home????? With 13 years experience im just wondering if there is a need for skills such as mine as i find working with special needs children really really rewarding and im not one bit bitter at Rochdale Council for shutting us all down coz they are penny pinching idiots.
Thanks once again for any help and advice.
Sam

not one bit bitter

but at least you can come to spain!

my kids are in spanish state school, & there are some kids with special needs there - I have no idea if there are special schools for more serious problems though

the local, private International schools have no provision for special needs at all (I think maybe one primary school does, but it's a tiny school)

this may not be the case throughout the country, as every area seems to have it's own rules

I am fairly sure there is a dedicated special needs school in Denia, Northern Costa Blanca, as I have seen fund raising publicity in the past.

Thanks again Lynnxa
I feel very bitter for the kids as they are the ones that are gonna suffer - they are building 3 new state of the art special schools (ha thats a laugh coz theyve run out of money) next to really really rough schools/areas in Rochdale and think our kids are gonna be ok - we are building links with the attached mainstream schools but our kids are always being called names as you can imagine - if i dont like it i can leave but our kids dont have a choice -it makes me very upset thinking about what they are gonna have to face on a daily basis as they are so innocent and do not deserve that - its taken years to build up their confidence and to have it knocked out of them again is criminal.
Oh god sorry about the rant (dont know how to do funny face yet but i would have put one here lol) - no as you can see im not bitter lol.

It is awful..where we used to live there were a couple of special needs schools which had good reputations - the only trouble was they were so small, and there were so few places that it was really hard to get your child into one

It certainly is. I drove to Malaga from Denia last summer - took me 5-6 hours. Stunning landscape though, once you get to inland Andalucia.

However, if there is provision in CBN, then Malaga might too have similar resources.

Hi Lynnxa
We did have 7 special schools all with excellent ofsted reports - they dwindled that down to 5 and now they are going to 3 - whats really annoying is that they have told parents they have a choice of which school their child can go to - then send them letters out telling them where their children are going to - wheres the choice - plus they are breaking down childrens friendships as the children come from all over the borough - such a shame.
Ranting again lol
Sam
PS - will this be pulled coz im calling the high and the mighty lol - some of the posts on here have me in stitches when they get going.

interesting viewpoint on special schools I have a daughter in special ed in the Uk and have looked at schooling in Spain but really feel that at least in Spain she will have the opportunity to attend mainstream sadly denied in the uK! in terms of schools tho there are several for deaf children all across Spain and also for kids with Multiple disability, if you want any more info then please ask as I spent a long time looking for my daughter and came across all sorts of special schools! found the schools just cant find the damned house!!!

You could try looking at the NABSS website to get addresses for international school along the CDS. There are quite a few and I know that some employ people to work with children who have special needs. There are also some schools that teach the American curriculum but you would have to google to find out where they are. Which age group do you work with?

Hi gettingthere
Where abouts in Yorkshire are you - we have about 7 kids travelling over from Halifax every day at parents decided the special school over there was not for their children.
We are just starting the journey - we looked about 10 years ago but chickened out - silly i know - hind sight is a wonderful thing. Properties where a lot cheaper as well - so i know what you mean about finding a house.
We are hoping to go around Malaga area - where are you hoping to go???
If you have any info for around this area i would be really grateful and i wish you good luck in your house search.
Thanks a lot.

Hi sunnydee
Thats great thanks.
The school i work in is from 5 to 16 years - i have been lucky enough to work my way through each year group - at the mo i work with years 7 - 11. The kids i work with tend to have problems with reading, writing and maths - a lot of them are very street wise kids (behavioural problems) and that is why i mentioned the kids in other schools earlier - our kids understand what they are being called so i can forsee lots of problems - a lot of these kids have come from mainstream who have failed them and to put them back into a situation like that i think is just waiting for trouble - but it will always be the special kids who are to blame:curse:.
Thanks sunnydee im gonna have a look on their if i can
