I would think that Dupont hires mainly spanish people who speak really good English now as opposed to foreigners. ??? Perhaps there were few who spoke it when you wife went to school. Just wondering where she grew up?

I have met up with 3 more Brits this past week !! It takes a while but there are a few Brits scattered around Asturias. Like a needle in a haystack.

My OH grew up in Oviedo itself and went to a private school just outside the city, called Colegio Ecole (not so many years ago, we are in our 20s). Oviedo is a beautiful, cultured and safe city especially for teenagers as they have freedom of the city to go out with their friends with no worries that something may happen to them. It's Woody Allan's favourite apparently...

I dont know the situation with Du Pont, but I know that the foreigners who worked there didnt actually speak Spanish at work.

I think Fredbargate has got the prize. I have a question for him----If he has not mastered any language , has he mastered the paperwork?!!!

OK now to be totally honest 39 yrs ago last Saturday I engaged the services of a secretary ( cook, bottlewasher, bedwarmer etc. )
On the 6th anniversary of her commencing employment we finally decided to settle here after having travelled around footloose for a few months.
That helps me with remembering a date that she deems important.
Therefore I can safely leave all those menial tasks like language and paperwork in her capable hands, otherwise she would get bored

So Saturday we went out for a meal, her to celebrate 39 years myself to celebrate 33 years.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Gobsmacked, you are all newbies:rofl: We bought in 1995 when things were cheap. Thinking of spending more time in the UK though. things sure aren't the same now.

Out of interest, how old were you all when you made the move? I have this picture in my head of most people on this forum being 50+. It would be interesting to know who came here to make a life for themselves, and who made their lives elsewhere but decided to retire here.

I was 29. OH was born here.
