Lynnxa gave me lessons. She runs a class in a local bar down in Javea port, and also private lessons from her house

has anyone heard of these government funded courses? (apparently they are trying to encourage more people in spain to learn the language and you just pay a small enrolment fee for the year).

Trust me ... you'll be better off paying a proper teacher for it.

Yes, they run these in Oliva and from what I heard up to 60 people turned up at the start of the first. In a large room, 60 people of different origins and different levels trying to learn Spanish

That happened here in Rochdale as well - about 40 people turned up so they had to split the class in two - thankfully i chose the other group as only 10 people could turn up to it - so i am now learning Spanish n really enjoying it

A friend of mine used to say that the English Institute in Calle Mar was good - but that was a year ago and the tutor(s) may have since changed.

Might be worth joining U3A http://www.u3adenia.memberlodge.org/

who have a branch in Denia - they run conversational groups and their next members' meeting is in January in the Casa Cultura on Plaza Jaime.

I went to a free council run course about 2 years ago, although not sure if these are still running with the current situation. There were about 25 people on the first evening, but within 2 weeks about 50% had dropped out. Apparently this is normal. I couldn´t speak any Spanish when I started, and I did learn quite a bit, although towards the end I supplemented it with private lessons, and I found the combination very helpful. This was because the teacher only spoke in Spanish, so if I learnt nothing else, I learnt how to listen in spanish. I found this extremely helpful, and I´m glad I did both

I studied Spanish with UNED in Denia for 2 years. It's based in the Casa de Cultura. It's a years course after which there is an exam if desired. I found it great. The teacher spoke Spanish the whole time and most people who lasted wanted to learn to a good level. There are cheaper courses in other places but after 2 years they had not done much beyond the menu and shopping.
