Dear Neighbours There is a constant increas in the number of foreign citiziens who are resident in Chiclana. These citiziens share day to day problems wich are common to all of us, however the experience specific difficulties wich require special attention.
For this reason we have considered that it is appropriate to include in our list of candidates for the forthcoming Municipal Elections a person who knows these circunstances at first hand and in this way to propose solutionsand take action necessary to solve the problems.
We consider that in this way we are helping citiziens coming from other countries to integrate fully into our society.
In order to speak of these issues and to establish an exchange of opinions, we have organised a cocktail-meeting
( Free Drinks & Tapas ) on Monday December 11 at 6:30 pm in the Iberostar Andalusia Playa Hotel located in Novo Sancti Petri.Hoping to be able to meet you personally that day, we send you our best wishes and thank you for your time.
Good Bye

We have received an official invitation from Chiclana PSOE. It appears that Local Government are attempting to do something so they are proposing to offer a candidate for the Municipal Elections who knows, and presumably understands these circumstances. His name is Mihal M. Tofan. Whether or not it will make any difference is anybody's guess but I suppose that it's up to all of us, if possible, to go along and see what it's all about.

Pehaps a few of the posters on this forum could go along and report to the forum ?? It should ideally be more than one as there would be different peceptions.

Any potential candidate knows full well that if they offer a solution to the complicated and diverse problems expats are suffering in this area, they can count on votes probably numbering thousands.
Whether anything actually comes from these promises remains to be seen, but lets keep an open mind and see what the meeting tells us.

I was speaking to a lady in the Post Office this morning from Pago del Humo ( and I apologise Andy as I did not ask if she was from upper or lower!!). This lady seemed to think the meeting was another one of those electrickery ones where they find out where you are and cut you off... Please be careful.

"Interesting post but if you are a genuine organisation or individual who wants to take these matters seriously then why dont you say who you really are rather than just 'misterspain'.
Before I give my support to this I would like to know who is behind it and are they there for commercial gain? Maybe you are just somebody trying to get an organisation started?
More information would be good"
They have responded by saying it is not for commercial gain but is an action for the local elections for the socialist party. They said no more about who misterspain is.
I am intending to go along tonight so will give some feedback tomorrow.

I went to the meeting last night. About 200 ex pats attended, mostly Brits and the odd German. The mayor himself made a presentation about the future of Chiclana all of which was translated to English.
He spoke about a new bridge, 2 new health centres, a tram to Cadiz, a road that will take beach bound traffic away from the town centre, an athletic centre, 100s of new parking spaces, redevelopment of the bullring into a 7,000 seater arena with accompanying commercial centre with parking. All in the plans and to be completed in the near future!!
All very nice, I thought. Then questions were invited and an English lady asked the BIG question. What about all the people who have been cut off? (That was the gist of her question although she was a lot more long winded about it) The mayor's reply was rather succint. While you may have documents of every shape and hue - the one document that you don't have is a building permit issued by the town hall. He said that they recognised the problem and to that end are going to open an office in Chiclana in January which will regularize this situation. Anyone on yellow or yellow stripey land will be made totally legal. For the folk who are on white land - their cases will be looked at on an individual basis and where possible their house will also be made legal. The exception being if the house is on land where a road or some other infrastructure is planned.
After that a german lady made a plea for the pine trees' preservation. I left at that point, had some tapas and a beer.
Before I left I said hello to the mayor and told him that I'm very happy living here and thanked him for holding the meeting.

Why if you need a building permit from the town hall to build somebody did not ask him why he is still allowing properties to be built on every piece of land available without this document.
