Default Smoke coming back in

Hi Im new to the forum but moved to Spain a year ago........ Does anyone have problems with their estufa when its windy?

Tonight the smoke is coming back down the chimney something terrible..am having to open the windows. Weve had it swept just before November, changed the spinner on the top but still having problems.

Any advice you could give would be much appreciated? Thanks in advance

No problems with my estufa.....never used it. It's like going back to the dark ages and they just seem to make a hell of a mess.

Bil our resident fire expert should be along to advise you soonest. I think he will tell you to raise the chimney as you have replaced the spinning cowl also check your chimney for tar/blockage however stand by for bil.

I don't understand what's going on here. I replied talking about estufas in a thread about estufas and my post has been deleted for not being relevant.

This is bizarre.....now it's back on the board again, but a few minutes ago it was deleted with this message:

I'm even more confused now.

Apologies - my mistake.

Now let's see if anyone can suggest a cure for the smoke problem.

I did once rent a house where the problem was so bad that the owner had installed an electric fan at the top of the chimney - that certainly worked OK.

It is because the stove/fireplace (not sure what you mean by estufa) airflow from room to chimney/flue is incorrect. You will need a narrowing in the chimney (venturi) to create a low pressure so that smokes goes up not in. Either that or the electric extractor fan in the chimney.

We had the problem with an open fire place. It was solved by installing an insert.

I'va had the same problem unfortunately. Last night I sat in the relative cold with just oil rads on because the fire blew back again and filled the room with smoke.

Wood burner, my chimney narrows as it goes up and the flue goes to the very top.....the smoke only comes back in when its really windy otherwise its ok!

Not sure if it's the same problem but my open fire used to smoke when the wind was in a certain direction. I installed a static cowl with its open side facing opposite to the direction from which the wind that caused the problem was coming and it has been OK ever since.

Trouble is I have one of those brick built chimney tops with small openings. Think it would need to be rebuilt to fit one
