When we bought 3 years ago I used http://www.interchangefx.co.uk/ They were excellent and beat all other rates, including a very competitive one from my bank, First Direct.
My account manager was a guy called Toby Fischer, he could not have been more helpful, not sure if he is still there.

Look a couple of posts B4 yours..........Yes, it went very well and I will certainly use them again if the rate remains competitives agaist the others.

I have now registered with Smart currency exchange and they have just phoned me to discuss my requirements. Their website is slightly misleading. The rate published of 1.28 is only an inter bank rate and the rate you get is slightly lower at 1.27 but that is still better than the other rates I had. Also, even though the website seems to say their service is free they do make a charge of £5 unless you transfer over £3000.
So not quite as good as it suggests but still seems to be better than most.

Currencies direct did the same to me. As soon as I signed up they offered me .4 or .5 under what I was already getting.
We have to acknowledge that these people are hard businessmen and are there to make as much out of us as they can!

Sorry, I was not very clear about what I meant. I had realised you had sent the transfer but I wondered how long it would take to arrive at the other end. In December I sent money over and it took 10 days from the time it left my bank account !!

Hi all
One company that doesn´t charge for transfers of any amount is Premier FX -and generally beat all other currency companies on the rates

do counter-attack that. fone a rival, get a new customer rate, tell CD you´re gonna do that...100% of the time they beat the rate the rival gave you!!
works for me every time!

It has worked for me every time! Including 2 days ago! Maybe it needs "the womans touch"
No seriously, i fone currencies worldwide, get a rate from them then tell cd...and they always, no exceptions, have beaten it-not even just matched it, but beaten it!

I can't find the thread where we were talking about the exchange rate, so I'm putting it in here.
Money went into the bank to day via Banca March and we got 1.25 so a little bit better than the 1.22 we got a couple of weeks ago.

Yes the pound is up the last few days interbank rate has crept above 1.27 so allowing for normal amounts (less than millions) about 1.25 is right. We have just had the second of Kaths teachers pension paid direct and both times they were close to the Bank of England reducing the bank rate and the figures were crap 1.22 and less and within a week or so the rate crept back up so it doesn't feel good.
